... I feel I have traveled back to 1991...

i was not aware that the NH came with a flux-capacitor!?!  that could be what is causing the mysterious thump. Hap1  try jiggling the flux capacitor.

glad to hear you got so much work done!  i hope we get a full ride report after you get the new chain on!

cheers,

THUMP THUMP THUMP.....is GONE GONE GONE!  Not sure which it was but frankly just happy its gone, and the new shocks are a WONDER to ride on.
Next issue front fork seals replacement.  Thats gonna be next weekends project.  I am just thrilled the thump is gone and the ride is MUCH improved all ready.

Just a few more "tweaks" and it will be ready for "prime time".    laugh

And as promised "G" here are some pics.

I am putting my money on the chain/sprocket area, you would not BELIEVE the amount of S&^% in the housing behind the sprocket cover. My "theory" is the chain had a tight or bad spot in it that would not "bend" around the sprocket and would bang on the engine case or cover.

I would tend to agree.  I had a similar mysterious thumping when a mechanic maladusted the chain tensioners after installing a tire.  I rode it for about 1200 miles before the thumping started and I realized what the mechanic had done.   Even after properly adjusting and lubing the chain, the thump continued and got worse ( I was on a 5K mile road trip at the time).  After limping it home, I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with the chain while turning it on the centerstand, but I figured that 1200 miles with a cockeyed alignment probably did something bad.  Sure enough, when I replaced the chain and sprockets, the mysterious thump went away.  On post mortem examination, the cockeyed chain had destroyed numerous O-ring seals.  While it wasn't readily apparent when inspecting on the centerstand, when I pulled the front sprocket cover off, I could see some binding in the chain as it tried to turn the tight bend around the front sprocket.

1 step forward and 2 back.
Started to tackle the front fork seal job today (got the chain issues sorted all is good with rear end now) and 2 of the front pinch bolts where striped seized tight.   So now I have some penetrating oil sitting on them........hopefully that will work if not the drill and easy out will be next.

I guess its a good thing I wasn't in a Hurry to get this done. giggle
