Ok... So I bought this bike( 1982 cb650SC) a month ago sight unseen for almost nothing.... It has a pretty clean history but is rough around the edges. anyway... onto my point. Another forum I was attempting to make me feel stupid by telling me that I was on the SOHC forum, and that I needed to go elsewhere for help because the bike I bought was a DOHC. I'm getting conflicting stories and am confused. Please no hazing... I am new to bikes, and just want to learn about the one I have. Can someone please just tell me what I have. According to a site I found, the 82 was the last year for the SOHC, and the 83-85 is when the DOHC's were made. Am I right....wrong....? thanks for the help guys. I already like this forum.

Hey Matt, are correct.  It's a SOHC.  I'm located in Spring Hill, TN.  We'll have to hook up for a ride once I get my bike running again.

Not a lot of hazing goes on around here. You have a SOHC, but what's wrong with it? These guys can have you back on the road in no time with all the help.

Don't worry about being hazed, flamed, made to look stupid, etc...here. this is a great group of people here willing to help out. The only thing people may call you on is always post pics and use the search function of the forum.

Flaming is not tolerated here by Hondo or the mods which definitely makes this the best place to come to for questions or to just shoot the bull.

It looks from your other thread like you're gonna be in for similar fun if you decide to rebuild.

So what I'm dying to know -- did you go back to the other forum and toss it back into their faces?

actually the sohc guys were giving me crap, so I closed my account. they were telling me I was rediculous for buying a bike and not knowing what it is... I was just kind of over the whole noob lack-of-respect thing over there. I might be new to bikes, but I know motors in general. I bought the bike for the cost of a few tanks of gas, so I picked it up sight unseen. I only required there to be a valid title... other than that I didn't care. It's kind of confusing with the way the 82 model is sometimes grouped into the 83-85 bikes, and they felt I should have just "known" the difference. anyway... I'm better over here anyway..

Well, that whole forum turned into what's basically a private club, and if you're not one of the group prepare to get piled on. So this place gets my brilliance instead.

I actually met Laminar over there, and he kindly informed me my 550 was a DOHC and pointed me here. So the way I see it the best person from there is over here anyway.

Hey Nashvegasmatt,
I'm also VERY new here, but have been looking around as a guest for awhile....there is some good natured ribbing that I have seen.....between veteran contributers....but NEVER aimed at new guys like us asking a question. Everyone makes you feel like you have just inherited a whole new group of friends.

I've belonged to many forums over the years, in several different interest areas...this one is by far the friendliest, most helpful and easiest on newcomers. It is the only forum I've used where I would consider traveling 1500 miles to meet up for a few days of riding in NC without ever having met anyone in person.

Strangely enough, one of the roughest web forums I took part in was a law enforcement site. Those guys were brutal on noobs. Must be the 'crap on the rookie' mentality that is unfortunately so pervasive in that career field.

That's because us pathetic losers who believe it would be great to be nice to people for a change have to hang out somewhere together.  giggle

I was on a few boards elsewhere before Hondo set this one up. Or more to the point, I WAS on a few other boards for short periods then jumped ship due to the attitudes and hostile comments. The attitudes were severe enough that I deleted all my posts, had the admin delete my account, then I vanished forever. Those people weren't in it for help or to help others, they were in it to prove something and snot on anyone with a different opinion even if, and especially if, the different opinion was the correct answer to the problem.

The prevalent attitude around these parts is that as long as you don't spit on us or beat puppies, you're pretty much welcome here.
