Convinced SOQS that we needed to take the bike on an overnight trip ... she responded with "let's do 2 nights"!   claps  So, we decided to head for Big Bear Lake, about 120 miles to the east of Lancaster (see route map below).   All in all, the ride was much fun and we had a lot of good food in Big Bear Lake (especially at the Himalayan Restaurant!!).

Here I am in front of Mollie's Kountry Kitchen in Apple Valley.  The hostess is a real character named Sarge and made this stop worthwhile (food was good too).

Arrived in the afternoon at the Northwoods Resort in Big Bear Lake.  Here is a picture taken from our balcony.  We've outgrown the tent camping stage and this is about as rough as it gets for us anymore.  The resort was nearly deserted as the skiing season is over for the year.  When our kids were growing up we made many ski trips to this area.

Big Bear Lake is a great fishing lake as evidenced by the many marinas ..  There is a fishing derby coming up in about a week and one of the trout has been tagged for a $50K prize!

The lake is as full as it can get.  I talked with an employee at the Boulder Bay picnic area and there is a bit of concern about possible low level flooding when the rest of the snow melt percolates down to the lake.

Breakfast at the Teddy Bear Cafe.  Seems like everything in the area has a bear theme..

View from the north shore (Fawnskin community)

The wind started kicking up in the afternoon on Wednesday.  This causeway (?) was partially flooded by waves splashing up on the road.

On the return trip, looking back towards Big Bear Lake.  We didn't care for the route through Apple Valley .. too many red lights and I think I hit every single one! DirtDOG  So, we decided to take the longer route back on the Rim of the World Highway.  What a nice road with lots of turns.  No more Apple Valley route, I guess!

Here is the route we took.  I missed the turnoff to Crestline and ended up going to San Bernardino instead.  Not a bad road and also somewhat scenic ... just a bit further and involved hitting the 215 and 15 freeways for a few miles.  Anyway, we now have the Crestline/Lake Arrowhead loops to look forward to!

Wow roadrunner that looks like a wonderful trip.  Love the photo overlooking the valley and the lake.

Thanks for sharing.  SOQS's gear seems to fit nicely.  It's nearly impossible for me to imagine snow still on the tops of the mountains.

Thanks Fish .. the views from that road (Rim of the World Highway) were awesome.  I would  have taken more but traffic was heavy due to a highway closure and I'm not really comfortable crossing over hairpin curves to the view area, especially with SOQS aboard.

Thanks Pants ... the snow was a big surprise to us too!  This spring has been MUCH cooler than normal.
