I heard that if your in a pinch, hair spray works well. Supposedly it allows the rubber to move for a few minutes before it gets sticky.

Did the same with carburetor cleaner, the spray stuff, worked fine for me. Just spray and slid on don't waste any time.

I use hairspray on all of my grips. It keeps them firmly in place on the bars. Spray a little on the bars and a bit in the grip itself. You will need to wait an hour or two to let them dry before you take the bike for a ride though.

I used dish soap and water. Like you said it is about getting them to slide on, once dry they stay put.

windshield glue?

i never would have thought of that. i've always used "aquanet" hairspray, just a trick from working in a bicycle shop. (side note: while the super tacky aquanet works great for grips, the aquanet with the least amount of sticky stuff works great for spud guns propellant)

i would like to hear how your glue solution holds up!

cheers,

How do any of you glue the throttle side grip without binding up the throttle tube. I tried it once and mucked it all up.

I am sure I had. I have since used double sided tape. Trouble with the tape is that when it gets hot the grips do slide around a bit. I recently safety wired them and they haven't moved as of yet. The next time I replace the grips I'd like to try glue again.

Know this: after foam grips have a little wear on them, that hairspray will come undone after a heavy rain.
I had to zip-tip my grips onto the bars halfway across the country, they kept slipping off when the hairspray washed off.

double sided tape on the tube.  Then some paint thinner in the grip, pour it over the tape and put the grip on quickly.  This is how grips are put on golf clubs and they have to withstand a great deal of torque

Muttstang,

That is the method I use. I even got the tape from the golf pro shop. I use Oury road grips and I think they must react with the adhesive on the tape. When it gets above 75 degrees the glue gets soft and the grips start to move around.

Can you please try to write your posts in a more understandable way?  Many here consider that a sign of respect to others.

Are you sure the grips you bought are for 7/8 bars? If they are still extremely loose then, they may be for 1 inch bars because hairspray or dish soap should work. I've never used anything but hairspray on any of my grips.

Also, most grip sets have one of them that is slightly larger in inside diameter to accommodate the throttle tube. Is it possible you put the grip on the wrong end?

...I use a $2 tube of scotts grip glue and I haven't had a grip come loose yet , surely a can of hair spray costs more than a small tube of grip glue....which most local motorcycle shops should have.
