Hello people.  I've been lurking long enough to read a couple of hundred posts here and decide to buy a Nighthawk for myself!  Thanks to everyone who keeps this site so active and provides the wealth of knowledge.  It's invaluable and extremely helpful.  Im grateful.

The 700s was always a top-three favorite bike for me.  The stance and lines of this bike still hold up today.  Hell, it's even more beautiful when you think how "cookie cutter" the crotch rockets have become.  This bike can hold its own in looks and performance.  I really believe this.  Oh yeah, my other favorites were both Kawasaki's:  Z1R, and GPZ.

Ok, this bike started life as an original 1986 Nighthawk.  No mix n' match.  All the parts are here.  She has 74,000+ miles which has to be some sort of record based on other posts I've read here :)
This bike is bone stock except the Vance&Hines 4-1 exhaust, Corbin seat, and paint job.  I bought it from a guy who was the original owner (or close to it..title from 1989).  That doesn't happen much these days.  He's taken loving care of this beauty it seems.

This bike sounds so LUSH running through the gears or at idle.  It pops to life with a 1/2 second tap on the starter.

I intend to restore this bike to its birth colors;  Rothman Honda tribute Red, White, and BLUE!  I was so happy to learn that this bike started with my all time favorite NH color scheme.
All the gages work.  The needles are even attached still (a bonus). I have a non-bulb issue with the left aftermarket blinker.  She no workie, so I'll trouble shoot that someday soon.

I have a Nighthawk now, so it's time to get active myself and start participating.

I am very interested in your opinions, questions, and suggestions.
Thanks again for the amazing amount if information / knowledge transfer going on here.  Im working on reading all of it.

Here are a few pictures if you guys don't mind...

Generally I'm not a big fan of flame repaints, but yours looks pretty awesome.  welcome to the forums and good luck with your new ride.

Wow, I usually don't like flames on just about anything, but those are subtle enough that they really look good! I really like the black carbs, any idea what they are painted with? Great looking 700S!

In terms of mileage, numbers like that aren't uncommon. One member (I forget who) sold a 750 at over 100,000 miles and its still trucking strong, and Laminar has about the same number of miles as you on his 550.

Hell, those tins and plastics look so good I'd get another junk set if I wasconverting it to RWB, but I know how hard the sidecovers are to find.

I would agree that is a tasty paint job there, and would also agree that another complete set of bodywork might be the way to go to restore the RWB colors. Welcome to the forum Larry!

Welcome to the group, ride safe.

Your bike looks very nice.  I'm impressed with how well maintained she looks with 74,000 miles.

I noticed what appears to be some plastic on top of the carbs - what is that part?

Hope you enjoy your nighthawk.

Welcome to the forum Gundo Larry  wave

Beautiful looking 86 you have there. I'm glad to hear you are going to return it to the RWB colour scheme  thumb

I noticed what appears to be some plastic on top of the carbs - what is that part?

This part is on all of the 86's (including the Cali and non-Cali models). Its part of the crank case breather system. We have a similar thing on the 84's and 85's, its just located at the bottom of the air box on ours.

The outside (2) carbs are powdercoated black.  The inside 2 are bare metal / stock.

Thanks very much for your reply!

Great looking bike.  I agree with others about the flames, I usually don't dig them, but don't mind them on your bike.  Enjoy!

Wow!
I love the paintjob on this one.
The combo with the black screen, corbin seat and the 4-1 exhaust really works.
