I was just thinking how dangerous it must be riding a motorcycle around Tennessee right now without a full face helmet because of the infestation of cicadas we have right now.  They've been splattering all over my windshield for a couple weeks now.  I can't imagine taking one in the face at 70mph Hap1

[Gack]

Since I still haven't found a good enough deal on mesh riding gear, I'm stuck with my normal (non-vented) gear for the time being. So this pretty much dictates that I have to remove my windscreen when temps start regularly getting into the high 70s. I did so the other night, then took the bike for a shake-down ride just past dusk. I forgot how much that windscreen deflects and protects against bugs. A june bug at 60+ felt like I'd been shot with a paintball.

I commute most days on my bike and I set my helmet on my desk during the day. I try to keep it fairly clean, but every now and again I just don't have time to wipe it down before I leave the house. One day last year I had it in my office after a longish ride the night before. Someone came to bring me some paperwork and damn-near retched when she saw my bug-spattered helmet.

My commute takes me over some nice swamp areas, I have to de-louse every morning at the office, then again when I get home.  A good coat of wax on the front of the bike and the helmet makes it all easier to remove.

I keep a bottle of bug/tar remover in the garage and give the helmet a spritz & wipe-down every few days in the height of the bug season.

How can you spot a happy motorcyclist? Look for the bugs in the teeth!

A june bud, or something, hit me in the face on my trip to NOLA. I had my visor open so I could readjust my sunglasses/get some air, and bug hit me right in the face under my left eye. It felt like a rock, but it splattered. lol. Gross.   wacko

I clean mine off after every ride.  Lots easier to clean when they haven't had a chance to harden up.  Not to mention if I went any longer between cleanings I'd be losing some visibility.

Ewwwwwwwwww...

I've found that CrystalGlo on the windshield and helmet visor makes cleanup lots easier.
