The tool is to remove earwax from the tunnel.
I reccommend staying with the memory foam tips if they're comfortable, they will provide the most isolation and bass response. They're spendy though, and I can't get them. I have to order straight from Shure just like everyone else.
I just upgraded my SE215 to the SE425 personally, same features as the 215 but dual drivers. They have not fully burned in but I'm not super impressed with the sound quality so far. They're better, but not $200 dollars better. I'll wait until I hit the 100 hour mark in burn time before I give a final verdict though.
Side note, slightly off topic, if anyone is looking for stellar headphones for at home listening, you should try the
Beyer Dynamic DT-770. One of the best, most accurate set of cans you can get this side of $500.
