Hello everyone here at NHF's , I was trolling around here for about a week and was just checking things out and getting to know some of you by your post and finally decided to drop a line , I have a hard time introducing myself so I will do that at a later time since I do have a question as a new rider. I need a good helmet but do not know what I should get any idea's as to what is a good helmet for the money?

Well that's too bad...I'm counting this as an introduction. to the Nighthawk Forums!!! As far as helmets go, you get alot of bang for your buck with Scorpions. I ride with a EXO-400 every day and love it, I believe I picked it up at a local bike shop for ~$100. You can find tons of great deals on gear at www.motorcyclegear.com they have excellent service too, many of the members here including myself have had great experiences with them. Let us know what you end up looking at getting. Take care and ride safe.

I have and Icon Alliance. It fits good and is comfortable. Its a full face shield. I did have to buy a smoked lens though, everytime i got out in good sun i found the clear one just make the reflection worse. I didn't have the $$$ for a really good one but so far this one has been fine. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/537/114/Motorcycle-Article/Icon-Alliance-Helmet-Review.aspx

to the addiction! I am a fan of the HJC helmets, I am on my third and find them to be a good quality, especially for the price. They generally get good reviews, and you can get great deals on clearance at the link above.

IMO Asking about helmets is like asking about underwear or oil - you just need to visit several stores and try on helmets. And whatever you do, ignore the song and dance that the salesmen tell you about helmet safety and quaility. Instead go to http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmet-faq.htm and do some reading. Here is another good read about helmets http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html and not to be out done by others - I have been wearing a Gmax GM68S for two years now commuting near daily and have really enjoyed my helemt. It is not perfect, but for $125 it has some fantastic features such as LEDs in the back, a tinted visor, good air flow, good balance. But helmets are such a personal fit item you really just have to make your own opinion by reading and judging the information to your best ability.

Folks have mentioned the GMax and the EXO-400, as well as HJC. Another good economical candidate is the Sparx S-07. Great helmet reviews here, and they do evaluate the "head shape" of different helmet lasts: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-helmets/motorcycle-helmets.htmNewEnough, and HelmetHarbor are great online vendors.

Hopefully you've been lurking, not trolling. I highly recommend trying on helmets at brick and mortar stores. Fit trumps almost everything else. There is no value in an uncomfortable helmet. Most helmet manufacturer websites will list their vendors. I have a Scorpion now, but if I stumbled upon some bucks I'd be in a Schuberth again.

If this helmet is a good fit I recommend it. The most comfortable helmet I've ever worn.

Are you saying you try on your underwear before you buy??? As to the original poster, welcome aboard. I personally use an HJC. I'm not really brand loyal, it just fit me well and was the right price. As mentioned see what fits you well.

I love my HJC. I picked up the CL-SP on denniskirk.com for about $65. It was a closeout. However, I had several HJC's before from my snowmobiling days, so I knew how they fit. You definitely want to find the right fit. I would suggest trying on in the store first. After finding te right fit, you can search for deals online. Or, support your local shop.
