Almost 10 years ago I started riding mopeds.
I've had a Puch Maxi 2-speed and a Tomos A3.

But I usually don't count them, because they aren't real classic mopeds IMO.

Here's the list of the "real" classics that I own:

My first one is a Puch MV50 from 1977:

My second one is a Puch MS50 from 1965:

My third moped is a Puch (N50) Monza from 1980: (pic. made in Paris)

My fourth moped is a Puch M50 Racing from 1974:

But I sold this one a few months ago to buy a RWB 700S

My fifth moped is a Puch M50 Racing from 1974:

But I have sold this one also.

My sixth and final moped is a customized Tomos 4L from +/-1975

I hope you like my collection of classic European mopeds.

I don't get the seating position on the Tomos... scratcher No matter how I try to picture someone riding it it looks uncomfortable.  puzzled

Well..   it's a small moped. so it isn't as uncomfortable as you'd think.

Back in the mid 70's a bunch of guys I knew angled their bicycle seats like that. I thought it must be some weird male thing I'd never understand.  happy1
Interesting handlebars on the Puch M50s.

I forgot to mention that these so called "egg"-tank mopeds were part of 60's and 70's culture.

Look at this classic Puch commercial!

I always thought "Mopeds" had pedals and doubled as a bicycle.  scratcher

Or is the term Moped just used as a generalization of all scooters?

I've never owned one or paid much attention to them to understand the differences.

Cool collection, but the last one is indeed interesting.

What kind of cruising speed can these run at on the motor?

Have you ever checked your fuel mileage on any of them?

I like how the commercial had some kind of rip-off of Iron Butterfly on it.   claps

I think over seas a moped is defined by displacement. We have had this discussion already.

I need to share this with you guys:

This is a group of 11 riders riding in Paris, including me, on the first day after our 'Breda-Paris Rally'. Puch and Tomos mopeds only.

http://youtu.be/deBJBYpAfJY?hd=1

This Breda-Paris Rally only happens once every 2 years.
Next Rally will be in the 3rd week of May 2012.

I'm rebuilding one of my mopeds for this rally.
I'm aiming for a 4-gear engine with a >60cc displacement and a 16mm Dell'orto UA carburetor.

This really depends on how you tune them.
Stock they will have a top speed of 45km'h / 28mph (by law)
Mileage will be 1:45 (1 liter : 45km) / 105.85mpg

Tuned the top speed can vary from 45 to 75km'h / 28mph to 46.5mph(with a displacement of 50cc)
Mileage will vary as well... from 1:15 to 1:35 / 35.5mpg to 82.5mpg

FYI: A moped means: Motorized vehicle with a displacement of <50cc.
They don't have to have paddles anymore. There for a scooter with <50cc will be categorized as a moped as well.
