First off, my bike has been in storage for a year and a half in a tool shed in Massachusetts. I've been out of the country and am back on vacation for a month. I'd like to be able to ride while I'm here.

I went to see if I could start it up yesterday, took off the seat and found mice had built their home there. Next to the battery (the air filter casing?) the nest was black with oil. I cleaned it out, but I can tell it's been leaking a fair amount. When I went back today, there were a few drops of oil on the floor of the shed too.

I want to check the oil level, but man! that cap I have to unscrew is on there tight! I'll give it a little more muscle later on.

Last, like I said, the bikes been sitting in the hot and cold for a year and a half now. I know I need to buy a new battery (tried charging it...the lights turned on, but it wont turn over), but what else might I need to do? I filled the gas tank when I left and put gas stay in, but is it still good now? If not, do I need to somehow empty the tank?
