cjbear told me you all are photo junkies so I thought I'd contribute a few of my own from the trip.

No ride report is complete without initial shots of the bikes packed and ready to roll.  Here we are meeting up at 5am, little did we know that various events would set us back so much that our waking up at 4am seemed like a joke...

Here's another shot of our sexy machines entering the Natchez Trace

Here's da bear taking a pic of the waterfall, I'm behind the water fall if you can't tell.

It was a heated race but in the end I was the first to cross the AL/TN state line.  What a nice sign those two states have created.

My sense of victory was short lived though as we weren't in AL for long and cjbear roared past me at the last second to beat me to the MS state line.  Their sign isn't as impressive.

Bikes next to bodies of water always look cool.  The Barnett Reservoir just outside of Jackson, MS was quite impressive.

At last we finally make it to Louisiana.

Fast forwarding a bit...
Here are the bikes tucked away for the night at LOKi's uncle's camp.

The "camp" next door was a sweet house boat with an equally sweet shrimp boat.

Here's another shot of the LOKI's uncle's boat.  This thing was seriously bad ass.

Last but not least here's a trippy looking shot of cj and pants getting ready to take on the mighty redfish.

This camp is owned by a bunch of doctors. They use the shrimp boat to drag it out to their lease for duck season. Then use the shrimp boat as transport back and forth. The boat blinds are left at the lease and there is a tender on board the entire time.

The barge on the left is actually a generator. I think there are bunks upstairs but for the most part it's just a big diesel generator and a whole lot of fuel. The actual camp is the barge on the right. It's even bigger than it looks in the picture. For scale, in the main living room there is a huge TV. At least 57" and a buffalo head. Not no little buffalo either a full grown bust and head of a buffalo and the room does not look crowded.

The year before last they had a slightly different camp. The generator caught fire and burnt it down to the barge right at the end of duck season. It was a sad sight seeing the burnt out barge sitting in the slip while they made arraignments to have it rebuilt. At least no one was hurt. The tender got out in time and even try to fight the blaze but one person with a fire extinguisher isn't going to do much with a fire like that.

The design of that shrimp boat is called a Lafitte Skiff.  It is very popular in coastal Louisiana with crabbers, some oysterman, but especially shrimpers.  The fan tail is a cheap way to extend the length of the boat without building more hull.  The bow design lends itself to navigating shallow water, while still providing some protection against splashing waves.

This one is rigged for trawling 2 nets, but the Lafitte Skiff is also used for skimming shrimp with large rectangular out-rigged nets that skim near the surface.  Skimming works better in swift tidal currents, where the shrimp tend to float near the surface as they glide along.  Trawling works better for dragging the bays and gulf bottom.

Caught either way, they sure are tasty little critters.   giggle
