I'd strongly urge a leak check of the carbs before puting them back on the bike.... I got lots of practice with installing/removing my carbs due to some fuel leaks
That's a very good idea! Seeing as two of the float bowl gaskets had some additional liquid gasket sealer on them  |

Anyone know what my problem is here? I can start the bike with the choke and it idles decently but if i give it too much gas it dies immediately. The only obvious problem i see the this tube "the short one" is leaking a steady stream of gas while I have it running.  Heres a picture of the tube before i cleaned the carbs...I'm not sure it the other end is supposed to connect to something or not   Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

the short one is just a vent tube. It should probably be a bit longer to vent out to an area that is more protected from turbulent air

You have a fuel leak (causing the gas leak), and also dirty carbs (which is causing the stalling when you give it throttle). The internal passage-ways in the carb are dirty/plugged, so it's starving for gas when you open the throttle. ps. Be VERY CAREFULL with leaking fuel and carbs. If the fuel drains into the cylinders while the engine is off, and then you hit the starter to crank the engine over, you will INSTANTLY hydro-lock the engine and BREAK the starter chain. This is a HUGE problem to fix, as well as VERY expensive (have to remove engine, dis-assemble, and have/find parts and gasket set). The chain is NOT available, and this is the MOST common issue that causes one of these bikes to be parted out (not worth the time and money to try and fix). Hope this helps. |

I agree with MOPARJOE. If you are leaking fuel from that over flow tube, then you have a stuck float or float valve which is causing the gas to over fill in the float bowl and go shooting out that over flow tube. You get this when the carbs are dirty/gummed up. I'm making some progress! I took apart and cleaned the choke area that I marked with a red arrow and that seems to of fixed the the overflow issue. It might have been a stuck float and i simply knocked it loose? It also now runs without the choke in. The PO had the vacuum line that should be on the 3rd carb hooked up to the float chamber of the 4th carb. I now have a little more throttle control, it idles nicely with no choke but with the coke in the RPMs shoot up to 6k. And i'm now getting some white smoke. I'm changing the oil right now with the hopes it will help things  |

As far as i can tell the bike is running 100% "I Just went on my first test run"  The new oil seems to of stopped the smoke and installing an air filter helped with throttle control. I've been riding an 1980 Yamaha sr250 the last few months. This nighthawk is amazing! |

Bike is looking great.....
I had all the decals for these bikes reproduced last summer, and they can be bought on Ebay now (The guy is in PA; just type in "Honda Nighthawk decals" into Ebay search bar).....
Are you going to get a matching set of mirrors on the bike (left is aftermarket, and right appears to be the original; not a good pic of the right mirror, so can't be positive).....
I have a pair of Matching (aftermarket) Nighthawk mirrors in great shape, that I'd be willing to trade for your right mirror, if your mirror has the plastic cap on the back side of the pivot area).

It does need new tires. Have any suggestions?
If you are still looking for tires I have been running a Dunlop D404 130/90-16 on the rear and a Dunlop GT501 110-90-16 on Front. They don't seem to last as long as some other I've used before, but they grip very well. Was able to scrape pegs on my last trip to Deal's Gap.  |
