Ok, so i just got a 1982 450 Nighthawk 3 days ago and it was working fine up to today(the seller was my neighbor and have seen it running before i bought it on may occasions), but today when i went to start it up no lights what so ever turned on. As of now, the main fuse(15A) keeps burning when i turn the key to on, that's all i do. I have an OHM meter I can use but i need help as to what to check and do, as well as when/if i can find problem how do i fix.
Only things i did from yesterday to today was detail work to plastics and disconnect a rear turn and the horn(reconnected them). I did spill a little, very little; bit of gas on tank but i wiped it up fast.

Have you done the main fuse mod? It won't stop the fuses from going, but it will make replacing them a lot cheaper and less of a hassle. Recheck your connections first off, then start looking for any obvious shorts wherever you might have touched anything electrical on the bike.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the main fuse isn't 15A, it's 30A.

Well the one i pulled off was a 15, i could try a 30. Well i THINK i narrowed it down to the headlight terminal. Not completely sure that's it or there are others yet... :/ I disconnected everything in the headlight(good god its a mess), and started reconnecting and that's how i found my, problem?

You definitely have a short somewhere. When I first bought my Nighthawk it had a dead short that kept blowing the main fuse. Turned out I had a fried rectifier. Once I disconnected that the short went away. I wound up picking up a used one on Ebay and that fixed the problem.

Also putting a 15A fuse where a 30A fuse should be will pop it just from regular draw.

Awesome, problem solved, it turns out a wire was pinched between the horn's bolt and frame. In a way im glade this happened because i found my taillight was, chewed on by a rat?; the wires were all torn to pieces and baffled me how that wasn't what shorted my bike and the fact the taillight was working to begin with. Thanks for all the input, it helped very much.

Hopefully someone will read this oldish thread. I need to install a new main fuse on my '82 CB450SC, but can't find where it is. Could you explain it or post pictures? Thanks.

The Main fuse on my 700 is in a holder that is part of the stater solenoid.
