Looking at a 1981 CB 650 for $550.

Bike was garaged in 1996 running strong. Carbs and tank were drained prior to storage. 13000 on the odo. cosmetically poor

A. Is this a good price to pay?
B. What problems could I expect from a motor that has sat for 15 years? (dry climate)

I'm looking for a cheap bike either running or easy to get running so any advice would be welcome. I am mechanically savvy just don't have the time to rebuild a motor

Bike in question

Offer him $400. You can't go wrong. Just be prepared to put extra money into it if you want it to be a safe, reliable bike.

It's getting chopped, I just hope I can ride it before building. I bought a nighthawk in pieces and the motor ended up being trashed. That in turn ended the build and I sold it while I could

You're going to butcher the 81 650? Not that anyone cares or anything however that is a fairly rare motorcycle nowadays. Death to antiques?

And those exhaust pipes if they're in good condition, please sell them to someone instead of sawzalling them. They are completely impossible to find nowadays. I looked for 8 years before giving up. The only one I found I offered $1000 for and the guy was in such a hurry to chop that he hatcheted them before I could get there the next day.

Just saying...

I gotta say it... That is most definitely the ugliest seat I have ever seen on a bike. It is so ill fitting on that bike. It almost looks like it belongs on a Goldwing.   eek7

I got pissed and sold it regrettably

I passed on the CB for now. He wouldn't take less than $500

Yep. That was a few years ago. There is no respect for rare items in modern times. I'm not willing to give that much now since I've had enough of the nonsense and decided to fabricate them from scratch when I do the restoration.

If I come through the Denver area, I might be willing to take a look and talk if they're in good condition though...no guarantees on when though.
