I've always take it off when I've separated the cases. Even so, if you just want to separate the cases a bit, you would have to take the bolts out on it...including the one's with the allan heads.

I have taken all the bolts out of it and split it a little bit and i still cant get the case split. this is getting a little ridiculous.

There has to be a bolt still in there somewhere. If not, keep tapping with a rubber mallet.
When trying to take the cases apart, do you have the engine upside down?...so the bottom is facing up?

BTW, all the engine covers are off too, right? Clutch cover, right side crank cover, cover over the pick-ups...also the pick-ups need to be removed too.

AKA - Pulse generator.
When the engine is upright, it is on the left side.



You really need to read the Honda manual. It steps it out on how to split the cases...
Use the manual and re-trace your steps to see if you missed anything.
