Waiting for the wet season to end

So, here I am looking for a jacket so I can get out riding soon. So many choices/opinions out there on what's better and what's not so good, and so on and so on...I won't get into that right now.

To the point: I was checking all over the internet for jackets, and I ran across this jacket on newenough.com closeout section http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/leather_suits_jackets_and_pants/power_trip/dtp_leather_motorcycle_jacket.html. It's kinda funky, not sure if I like it or not, but someone might, and at the price it's hard to beat for leather. (no i don't work for them).

Just a thought.

By the way, anyone have any experience with Motoport brand? They say "they're the best"  umph (i hate those sales gimmicks), but I was talking to a cop I know and he says they're pretty decent being all kevlar construction and what not.

**Update**:
Well, I still thinks i's kinda of funky looking, but I purchased anyway. I like the thought of the abrasion resistence of leather and the gawd awful white lettering will definitely be noticable to cagers both day and night.

New enough is a great company to deal with. Their prices are about the best you can get, and they ship fast.
They also have some kind of deal where every order they receive, a designated web site receives $1.00. I have no idea how to set it up but maybe our adm. could look into it?

Yeah, I was hesitant on the looks of it too hangman. But for $79.00 I couldn't pass it up. I checked the tracking and it should arrive by Thursday, I'll post pics with me wearing it when it comes...

I looked for the forum in the list and it wasn't there, so sadly I could not pick it. That would be a great thing for admin to think of though. I've heard a lot of great stuff about them from various riders, that is why I ended up going with them. I am looking for a better pair of gloves right now too...I have a pair of Cortech GX Air's that I picked up for my MSF class that are comfy enough, but they don't seem like much protection.

Thanks! Armor is in all the right places...elbow and shoulder armor feels good and didn't shift on a short ride. Oh and yeah it has back protector too...only foam, but it's something. The jacket fits, well...snug, but everything is in all the right places so it probably just needs to break in a little. Thanks on the helmet too. Scorpion EXO 400: $130 at ride now power sports.

Does "inferno" imply that it's hot as hades wearing that jacket?  :)

I love NewEnough.  Got my tank bag, last 2 jackets & my new helmet from them, all on closeout (the helmet was only $49).  The jacket I got there last year on closeout for $30 is pretty nice, it's textile with leather over the armor in the impact zones.

If you want something cooler, check out the FirstGear MeshTex 3.0. I got one a few weeks ago and I love it - at temps below 70 degrees, it breathes well enough that I need the windbreaker liner in to stay warm enough, and on days like today where it's 85 degrees out, it keeps me nice and cool. It has CE-approved armor in the elbows and shoulders and a back pad. I got the matching gloves, too (carbon fiber knuckle protector!!). The jacket was only $70.

How is the jacket's sizing?  What I mean is, what is your "normal" size for clothes, and what size is your new jacket, and is it snug, loose, or just right?

I've tried on a large Joe Rocket Phoenix 5.0, fits me perfectly, great cooling (with the liner out), but it is a lot more moola - around $135 on line.   I'm liking the $70 a lot more!

I'm 6'5", 190lbs. I wear a dress shirt size 16 1/2, 34/35, fitted. I ordered a large-tall jacket, and the fit is alllmost perfect, maybe a little big around the stomach, but the torso length, sleeve length, and chest are all perfect.

I typically wear extra large rubber gloves, so I ordered the gloves in an extra large, but they're a tiny bit too small for me.

I like that it's free of the huge logos and lettering. And the first time I put it on, my fiancee said, "Wow, you have shoulders! Like a real man!"

Laminar - thanks for all the info and the pics - a really good looking jacket!   I think I'll order a red one (gotta match that '91 Hawk!) tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm still not used to the logos myself. Thinking about removing part of them actually...

The only thing I don't like about it is how hot it is, If it's warmer than 75 with the sun out, I cook, even with the venting. It's great for cooler wether though.

That jacket you got Laminar looks good. Heck of a deal at $70 for a new jacket! I like the silver as well, it would match my helmet perfectly. I might have to look into that one. I'm more concerned with getting the bike sorted out and driveable right now though.

Thanks for the link...I might have to get the red one...

I'd love the gloves..but they're pricey (and the wife is already complaining about how much I've spent since I got the bike *LOL*)

bummer....the wife put the kybosh on the firstgear jacket...because the red reminds her of Michael Jackson *LOL*  the silver isn't "me", and the blue wouldn't go with the red bike...

so I've got to find a comparable one in black...at a comparable price...any suggestions?

so, I emailed them about 5 PM  yesterday to ask them about the shipping...since the website says 120.00 shipping credit on firstgear items...but it didn't give it to me...

at 6:20 PM I got a response from them...on a SATURDAY....talk about awesome customer service...

I'd like to find something cheap to get that free shipping credit though :) the Cortech DX gloves don't count either Sad

pryan, did you get your mesh-tex jacket yet? I ordered one as well, however I'm  not sure if I should have gone with the firstgear rush jacket, seems like it is a bit more adjustable, like that arm snaps and such, thats one of my biggest problems I run into, is the floppy armor from the arms being too big. if anyone can chime in that would be great
