Oh ok, yeah I ordered an XL Tall the xl size looked perfect, and then i was going off the fact that many normal size XL mesh jackets, like the JR phoenix seem a bit short, riding up while on the bike, and looking ridiculous while walking around.

Alright, i found out that one my local shops does carry First Gear, so erring on the side of caution I went out and looked if they had any of the same jacket. Well, they won't have any mesh ones for a week or so, but I grabbed a similar looking full textile jacket in the xl and if the mesh has that kind of quality and that fit, then i'm golden, the regular xl was a bit short, so good thing i ordered XLT. I've never really looked at the First Gear stuff before, but it all looks to be very high quality stuff, and that jacket I tried on was extremely comfortable, just if anyone is riding the fence on this.

FirstGear makes nice stuff; I have a set of their riding pants. Got 'em from NewEnough as well. I did replace the foam pads in the knees with the Core-Comp pads for better protection. I went with Cortech for the jackets tho; they had the GX sport and GX air in the Yellow I just had to have NewEnough is a great place to get stuff from, I'm sure you'll like the service.

After looking at the colors for the First Gear Mesh jacket, I'm stuck between the red one to match my bike and the day glow for visibility http://www.newenough.com/browse/view_product_images/2765Anyone else ride with day glow?

I have red to match my bikes... color coordination is important, you understand. But for those of you who disregard such things, that day glow would definitely increase visibility, although I'm not sure if I'd be blinded by the reflection from my windscreen & mirrors.

pryan, did you get your mesh-tex jacket yet? I ordered one as well, however I'm not sure if I should have gone with the firstgear rush jacket, seems like it is a bit more adjustable, like that arm snaps and such, thats one of my biggest problems I run into, is the floppy armor from the arms being too big. if anyone can chime in that would be great
If you look at the elbows, you can see the "v" formed by the elastic bands. There's a velcro strap on the other side the lets you adjust tightness.

Yep mine came in too, fits great with the liner. As feared the arms are a bit floppy without the liner and as I just learned the hard way that laminar has the 3.0 (which has arm adjustments) and I ordered the new one ( which dosen't have arm adjustments), newenough dosen't have the old one. its not too bad, everything is great except for that.

Mike - if the floppiness bothers you, couldn't you just try velcro bands or something to wrap around the outsides of the sleeves?
(I just realized what I'd unintentionally typed - more pro bono plugs for velcro & it's multitude of uses).

Yeah I thought about using some bands, but you know, its the principle of it lol. It works so well otherwise, I guess I could look for a 3.0, not sure why they decided to drop the bands on the arms.

Are the sleeves loose enough to allow the elbow pads to slide out of the proper position during an unexpected get-off? If so, then it sounds like First Gear has made a really bad decision in dropping the sleeve adjusters. A little flapping in the wind is not a big deal - pads in the wrong place is another matter.

Yes, I would definitely say that if I had an unexpected get off, that armor might not be in its proper place when I hit the ground. I can push it out of the way easily, because it is free floating out in the air, barely touching my arm. Enough force could definitely take it out of its position though. Its not like I have small arms or anything either. It does not give me a good sense of protection, it dosen't have to be super tight, but there is too much slop in the arm and it can move off my elbow way too easily.

All the cleaners around here have sewing shop in them too. I bet for $10-20 you could get them to sew in some velro or elastic straps.
