Hello Nighthawk fans,
Last winter I froze while riding my bike. This year I vowed to ride warm!!!  I bought Gerbing G3 gloves, and First Gear 90Watt jacket liner. According to what I have read, the Nighthawk has a 280 watt system.  The gloves are 24 watt. Will these appliances over burden the battery or alternator?  As always, Thanks.    Jim

Simple math............determine alternator output watts and subtract the draw from heated gear, lights, ect. If it is higher than the alternator out put than it won't work. I have heated gear and it's no problem.

Thank you. That is what I thought. Lights 60w; taillights 24w; jacket 90w; gloves 27w. Total 201w. Alternator output 280w. Sounds good. Thanks,  Jim

Alternator output is rated at (or above) a specific RPM. In the case of the 700S, the book says 280 watts @6000 for the '84 and @5000 for 85/86. I don't know how much or how fast it drops off below that, but depending on how you drive you could be spending a lot of time with less than 280W available.
