My BMW F800ST was just sold, so I'm back to one bike. I loved that BMW because of its technology and quality, but could never get comfortable on the thing. I did all the mods I could, and no matter what, the ergos just weren't there for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed having six gears, belt drive, tire pressure monitoring, ABS, and an on-board computer. It was pretty fast, too. However, I will also thoroughly enjoy not having that monthly payment.

Adios, amigo.  wave

my buddie has a 1200 whatever the hell it is and we kinda did a roll on at 70, i was in the wrong gear so it lagged for a second and then pulled but it didn't matter he was gone for good, i couldn't beleive how fast it left me myself, i'd love one but the maintenance isn't cheap as are the payments

Hearing that those models of BMW's had bad ergos and are uncomfortable is something I have heard from several people so far recently.  scratcher

Aside from the new super bike, I assumed that all of the BMW's were comfortable and ready for long haul duties.

A friend of mine who had one absolutely loved his, and couldn't understand why I didn't love mine.

BMW's bigger touring bikes are different, more upright and comfortable. The ST stands for "sport touring," and for me, it was biased too much toward the sport side.

Arthritis and carpal tunnel problems had a lot to do with it, I suspect.

Not much maintenance, really. Belt drives are pretty much maintenance free for 40,000 miles or so, and the fuel injection never stumbled. The only thing I ever did was change filters and fluids.

Now when they break . . . that's a whole 'nother story.

I have a friend with an F800ST.  Traded up from a Versys which he said was too top heavy for him.  He loved his F800 but like you could never get comfortable on it even after mods like risers, windscreens and seat adjustments.  Sold it late last year and now rides a Honda NT700.  Loves the bike, he says it's down on performance from the BMW but it is perfect ergos for him and he is getting better mpg.

Sometimes there's nothing you can do to make a bike suit you ergonomically...best thing to do is let it go.  thumb

That's pretty impressive. My ST got 56 mpg around town, 66 mpg cruising at 70. The NT700 is on my list as a possible NH replacement when the time comes for that.

He always got good mpg from his ST too, the NT700 was just better.  I can't imagine it being much better than what you got on your ST though.  So many variables when it comes to mpg on bikes.
