Just got a couple pair of Alpinestars Socks and the Bohn Shorts today ....Starting with the socks they are super nice , way better than any pair of ordinary socks you could ever buy.

They are real comfy and worth 20 bucks even though that's a little steep for a pair of socks.

The Bohn Shorts are totally worth the purchase expense , they fit really nice and comfortable , the armor is plentiful and i believe will totally save your ass in case of a crash (only thing is you should compensate for the thickness and order your jeans one size larger) ..The tail bone piece is surprisingly thick , about 1 inch....This is a totally good idea to wear and i give them 3 thumbs up  thumb

I have a pair of Tech Sox that I'll use for long days in the saddle.  They wick and breathe well, and the elastic keeps them up and offers sort of a 'support hose' effect.  I also like SmartWool.  Both last forever and can be worn days in a row if needed.
Cotton socks are pretty awful, and I'm phasing them out.

thumb on the smart wool stuff. I wear them for hiking and all kinds of activities. Shrits, socks, whatever...and you really can wear them for a couple days in a row. Amazing stuff. Now I need to get some of those bohn shorts.

Or you can go with Knox , they are a little pricey that's why i opted out for bohn....http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=4099 scroll down to the bottom of the page for the video review , they look like they would be more comfortable and not so thick but i don't know, thick might be good.

All wool products do but at a cost ....I think it's worth it though
