I recently bought my first motorcycle (82 nighthawk) and everything has been going fine until yesterday when I accedently killed the batterie, I charged it up and everything was fine but when I went to start it i realised the fuel tap had been left on and now it wont start, it tries to and it backfires sometimes. i assume its juat flooded but what can I do to fix this ?

Thanks

Try draining the carb bowls and pull the plugs and dry them off. Then try starting it again.

I figured it out, turns out it was flooded and I did everything you said but it still wouldnt start unless I advaned the throttle 1/2 way and it would only fire on one cylinder so I replaced the plugs and it runs good as new.

Thanks for the help

Best way to start a flooded engine is to hold the throttle wide open while cranking.
