I have had my 2000 750 for about a month.  I also have an 86 Yamaha Radian 600.  The NH transmission is much louder and more mechanical sounding than the Radians.  Is this normal?  I am new this year to motorcycles and dont know what to expect.  The oil level is good and it looks clean.  Opinions?

It's on the clunky side, especially from neutral to first, but it is a very solid tranny and shouldn't be what you'd call loud. Not like the chunky way the Harleys shift.

You can adjust the clutch cable slack, and play with the shifter shaft by moving it a tooth at a time, to get the shifting pretty darn quiet. My 750 was much louder and clunkier before I adjusted the clutch cable to spec, and it got even better when I took a few days to carry around a 10mm wrench and keep moving the shifter lever till it fit me perfectly.
I would recommend using a magic marker to mark across the shifter shaft and shifter, so you know exactly where you started.

The transmission on my 03 NH has more gear noise than my other bike (a Suzuki GSX650F).  I had a 92 NH several years ago and it had a lot of gear noise as well.  I used ROTELLA Synthetic 5W40 for a while, the noise was louder so last change I went to ROTELLA 15W40 and the noise is less noticable.  Probably nothing to worry about, it is just a bit louder than most.  It seems to be in each gear, I am not talking about gear changes but gear whine.
