I took my annual pilot training checkride early on Sunday and then commuted home. When I arrived at DIA I was greeted with  an unbelievably beautiful afternoon.

That motivated me to get on my R1150RT and get in a ride to the west. I wasn't sure where I would go, but I decided to just head west on I-70 and decide from there.

I decided to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park. My first stop was at the top of one my favorite passes, Berthoud Pass -

It was just wonderful riding weather, maybe 50F at the top of the pass.

From there I rode north towards Grand Lake and the entrance of the park. As I rode the clouds were thickening over the mountains and fresh snow was evident at the higher elevations.

I stopped only at the top of Trail Ridge Road for a few pics -

It was pretty cold up there, with occasional snow flurries- I'd say the temps were definitely below freezing. I saw a few Elk on the way through the park, with light traffic and only two small traffic jams created by out of state tourists stopping for photos of the Elk.

I stopped in Boulder for fuel and rode uneventfully home, arriving at 630 pm knowing that in just 4 1/2 hours I had completed the 236 mile ride as a nice finish to a great day.

I'm envious.

I'm attempting to plan for a large trip to Col/Utah. Maybe I should get your input.  Rocky Mountain park is on the list.

that is some beautiful area.  We spent a week at grand lake one summer and caught lots of trout right at the entrance to the reservoir :)

Nice. That reminds me that I have to get up there before winter or before I roll out of the area again.

Been to the RMNP several times - it never disappoints.  Stayed in Grand Lake a couple of nights one year - beautiful area.

What is that on your seat, Hondo?  I've got to do something on the FJR, the stock seat is only good for about 100 miles.  I'm not ready for a $650.00 Russel or Cobin though.

Looks beautiful! I stopped in Steamboat years ago and was awestruck at the beauty. I would love to make it back someday.

Cry I miss that valley. I remember going over Berthoud pass at least twice a moth. If not more. Lived in Winter Park for two years before going back to school.

Great pictures but they make me sad.  Sad
