Just picked up this puppy 2 days ago and its a riot to be back on one again.. this is my 4th S and they still put a smile on my face. If anyone remembers, I was the one who had the S last year with only 2100 miles.. it was so pristine that I decided to let it go back in to circulation(eBay)... since living here in NYC nice things don't stay nice very long.Ive been wanting another ever since. This one i now have is a little rough around the edges but seems pretty solid. The tires are dry rotted and the front rim is bent pretty bad. Luckily eBay is stocked full of a lifetime supply of parts for these bike and snagged a front rim for $55 shipped. One thing that bothers me about the bike is that when releasing the clutch as i move forward there is a rattling in the motor under load but can be eliminated by applying a little throttle.. it reminds me of a cam chain, but im not sure.. . Also, when revving the motor from 3000 to 6000 at idle it feels like the motor is vibrating ever so slightly.. could be a carb balance?? thanks for all and any feedback !!    |

Yes, welcome back and nice looking NH S I would check the bolt that holds the outer clutch basket (#12 in the fiche below). It might be loose and its not uncommon for that bolt to be loose.  Check that bolt would be fairly easy. However, if its not that, then it is possible that you have the infamous 'cam chain rattle', which is very common for this bike due to a weak spring on the cam chain tensioner. I get it slightly at idle when the bike is cold. |

never knew there was a cam chain rattle.. I bet that's it.. I really feel like its the slack picking up when the revs do.. how so do you change that spring?  |

Is the 2100 mile bike you had, the one/blue '85 that was pictured on Ebay in the back of a pick-up truck, and had the mirrors stolen while it was sitting there? |

only put 30 or so miles on it.. i was too concerned with it getting trashed on the street so i just sold it knowing i'd just pick up another..if i remember correctly paid like 1900 for it, changed all the fluids, rebuilt the carbs and sold it for around 3800 on ebay..  |

Im gonna keep this for the moment grabbed it for only $1300 I need something to ride since Im rebuilding my dr650 motor with bigbore 780kit,cam, big valve head..and taking my time.. I forgot how nice these S's are..its really a bike ahead of its time |

I will.. mine is a 2006.. when all is done i should be up around 58hp and 50 something ftlbs torque.. |
