Hey all,

I've been lurking and posting for a bit and thought it time to do a more formal introduction...

Name's Sonny and live in Louisville KY.

Been riding mostly old 70's CB's for about six years and decided I wanted something a little newer so I could do some actual distance riding while still having a bike small enough for around town.

Being comfortable with a 4 cylinder Honda, I settled on a 750 Nighthawk and started trolling Craigslist and eBay and the like.

I found this '99 with 10,xxx on the clock and looked to be in decent shape.  Price was right in my wheel house so I pulled the trigger.

There were a few issues I noticed after purchasing.  The PO never uncorked the battery and there was some damage from acid overflow. Cosmetic mostly, and the swingarm bore the brunt of it. (kinda hard to see that just giving the bike a once over)  But it did do some damage to the chain, so I got to work.

First order of business was a new battery.  Then oil change and filter. Decided to swap out to some newer plugs and the bike started running even smoother.

Had some difficulty working on it on its sidestand, so I ordered a NOS centerstand set-up.

Ordered a Regina chain and sunstar sprocket kit (stock gearing) and got a new OEM air filter.  Much better still.

We sold the wife's CA160 Baby Dream when she decided she liked the back of the bike better so I ordered and installed the eBay Matauzu backrest/rack.

Next up was a set of Avon Roadriders. NOW the bike is starting to handle like I want it to!

Going faster and handling better don't mean squat if you can't stop, so I got a set-up from Galfer for the front brake: Stainless line, kevlar pads, and a thorough flush of the MC with some new DOT4.  Now we're talking. MUCH better stopping power. I really can't say enough for this set-up...

After reading up on here, I think I want to get the Progressive 412 Series out back and some new springs up front to fight that dive.

As it stands now, I'm a month in, 500 miles deep, and with the suspension included I'll be out of pocket less than $3K.  My machine runs like a top, is 20 years newer than my previously newest motorcycle and it does everything I want it to and more!

Now I just need to figure out some pictures...

welcome to the forums. Look forward to seeing some pics. Also, if you have pics of the older CB's, post them as well.

Here's a few in front of the house...

I'll try and get some pictures of the old bikes up tomorrow in the stablemates forum even though I sold them all.

It was mostly 500Fours and 400Fours.

I LOVE those bikes, but not enough to ride 300 miles out to camp off one...

Weather here is PERFECT right now and may head out to Red River Gorge this weekend for my first road trip on "Jolene".

My wife named her that as in "please don't take my man".  HA!
