Here is my 84.   I have had this bike about two months.   When I bought it it came with the Honda shop manual,  the owners manual under the seat and the factory tool kit under the left side cover.  It has the Honda line rear rack,  engine case guards  and a Corbin seat.  The seat is comfortable but really limits  your setting positions.  The bike was very clean and had 14600 miles when I bought it.  It now has 19000.   There have been no mods to the bike.  Still has stock air filter and pipes.   All the gages and indicators work.  Came with a NEP cruise control.
The rear tire is a non stock size Dunlop D404 150/80-B16 m/c 71H.  The front is also a non stock size Durotour 120/80-16 m/c 60H.  Both tires seam to fit and work OK.

I have changed the oil and filter.  Used genuine Honda oil and filter.  It was only about $7.00 more than auto parts oil and filter.  Changed clutch and brake fluid.  Checked brake pads,  look like new.

I added the Cortech Sport Saddles bags and the red reflective rim stripes.  The only other thing I am planing is to make some highway pegs and replace the weak  front turn signal stays with the ones from Dixie.

Bikes I owned
Before drivers license, 5hp Briggs and Stratton powered mini bike, 1960s Honda trail 90,Harley Sprint 350
After drivers license, 1970 CL175, 1974 XL250, 1980 XL500, 1983 XL600

My rear rack is black.  I noticed in your photo and mine that the rear brake arm on the drum is not black.  Never noticed that in person.  Might look better if it was black.

The rimstripe came from here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RED-REFLECTIVE-MOTORCYCLE-RIM-STRIPE-WHEEL-DECAL-TAPE-/380321328612?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item588ceaede4

I ordered 3/8 wide for a 15 inch rim since I did not put it on at the edge of the rim.
Installation instructions said to clean the rims with alcohol.  Then you mix up a soap and water spray and wet down the part of the rim where you are going to put the stripe.   The soap and water lets you slide the stripe around to get it where you want it.  The stripe has very sticky glue, If you don't wet it first once its on you are not going to move it.

Nice find.

I didn't care for the Dixie stems. They are a softer rubber than the stock ones and the signals bounced too much for me. Bugged the crap outta me when riding with the signals bouncing all the time. I made a little L bracket and mounted the signal to the fairing hinge and just ditched the stems.

Munkey,
Thanks for telling me about the Dixie mounts being softer than stock.  I had called Dixie and they are out of both left and right.  He did not know when they would get more.  I have seen the mod on this forum where you bolt the signal to the fairing pivot bolt.  I might try that.

This forum is great for Nighthawk information.  I searched  the word "mod" and received 22 pages of results.

TimmyJ,
We watched the tornado on a LCD TV powered by a small UPS in our storm pit.  I live to the east of Tuscaloosa about 6 miles. The eye passed about 500 feet to the north of the house.  We could feel the trees in the yard falling since we were under ground.  Some houses in my neighborhood were totally destroyed,  We did not have power for around  1 month.  Lost most of the trees in the yard and a few roof shingles.  All the trees fell pointing toward the North and missed the house.  There are whole sections of Tuscaloosa that used to be heavily wooded with houses that are now grassy fields.
I have heard that tornado's sound like a train,  this one sounded like 100 trains!!

Wow, glad your ok. That had to be a horrific experience.

Also the Crimson Tide looks like a number 1 team this year. A tornado, a Nighthawk S, a number 1 team. A lot of stuff happening in Tuscaloosa this year!

Woah, I have never seen reflective tape on rims before. I thought that people were just painting a pinstripe on their rims. I think that is a fantastic idea and it looks really good too.

Anyone here try the reflective tape on the 91-2003 Nighthawks?

I had a little time this morning and in my continuing quest to make my Nighthawk my own,  I painted the black HONDA letters on the clutch and pulse generator cover red.
   I like it.

Option13,
Rustoleum spray paint.   I went to a sign shop a they gave me a little bit of the same reflective red tape like on my wheel stripe.  I tried several  times to put the red tape in the letters but was not successful.  Since the black paint came all the way up to the brushed aluminum even if I was able to put the tape nicely in the bottom there would be a little black showing and that did not look good.  So I scrapped the tape idea and just painted them.
