Anyone have any experience with clamp on air filters? I personally think they look awesome on some of the cafes I've seen and was thinking about possibly getting them for my nighthawk 650.

http://www.cheapcycleparts.com/products/166658-emgo-1255752-air-filters-emigo-clamp-on-air-filter-mount-flange-i-d-52mm

K&N also have them but they're $45 a piece!

Of course re-jetting would also be in the plans.

Let me know what you guys think

Search, please. They don't work.

I'm not necessarily looking to increase performance. I like the look of the air filter being right off the carbs and was just seeing if anyone had opinions about them

Opinions are worthless. Facts are what you need.

They don't work with CV carbs. Period. It's such a common question I'm seriously considering changing my signature to say that.

Facts about what?! Show me proof that they dont work. And once again I'm doing it more for looks than performance.

facts as in most who have tried it end up puting the stock airbox back on eventually because they can't get the bike to run right with them.  your carbs are tuned to the plenum volume that the airbox provides and when you make it into 4 seperate intakes, that plenum ceases to exist and the bike ceases to run properly

If you don't believe me, fine. It's your money to waste, but ask any other regular member. Pods clamped onto a CV carb will not work.

Or you could, you know, search.

Pods do not mesh well with these bikes. Too much turbulent air flow=a poorly running NH.

Even if you re jet the carbs, you will never get them tuned correctly.

I had emgo pod filters on my 78' gs750 and the bike ran really rough even when tuned.  HOWEVER, when I bought my 92' cb750 it had UNIFILTER brand pod filters and a V&H 4-to-1, and I can't believe how well it runs.  I don't know if the previous owner rejetted but it goes to show that it can be done.  The temperature may be a factor as I live in Phoenix.

Well if you can make them work you will be the first (we've heard of)...take lots of pics and report in detail how you do it.  poke

Have you ever ridden a stock 750 as a basis for comparison?

Just to clarify, there's a distinct difference in "it works" meaning it runs and "it works" meaning that you are not experiencing a lean/rich condition or flat spots anywhere on the power band. Access to a dyno would be a must to figure this out...but the engineer types can explain why it still wouldn't work.

I've also put them on a couple bikes and work good.
