New rider here, looking for some advice on gear.

Helmet: Scorpion EXO 700, DOT and Snell, $100  (I already bought from MC closeout retail here in KC on closeout )

Gloves: Teknic Xcelerator, $160 (Bit more expensive gloves but with really good features like kangaroo palm and scaphoid armor, and overall very good protection)

Jaket: Alpinestars Rod? $300 (not too flashy look, relatively relaxed fit compared to other sport/race jackets so good for street/touring riding but still provides race-quality protection?)

Pants: Leather vs textile overpant?  Alpinestar so it can zip up with the jacket...(not sure what pants to get at this point.  I like leather but then again I'm not made of money....)

Boots: Sidi Fusion vs Alpinestars S-MX 5?  Would like something that's not super uncomfortable but still a full length boot that looks clean with high quality foot/ankle protection.

Pants: Leather vs textile overpant?
Are you riding all day, or changing out of riding gear twice or more a day and possibly getting rained upon?

Probably riding once or twice or maybe 3 times a week as I see it.  I don't think I will be changing out multiple times so maybe I'll lean more towards leather.

The way I see it, leather gives better abrasion resistance.  However, it's not waterproof like some textile and its more expensive.  I feel pretty good in my armored two piece textile.  Sure would feel better in full leather during dry rides but like you, I'm not made of money!  I've had a pretty heavy leather jacket for 10+ years that has gotten me through pretty wet rides, not fun though.  Good for you for going ATGATT.   claps
