I loved the '06 FZ1 I test rode some time ago. I was looking into hard bags for it when the insurance quote came back. Thats the only reason I didn't buy it.

This comment got me curious just how much it would vary, so I called my insurance company. Without changing anything on my policy other than just updating from my current bike, my monthly cost would increase by no more than $25.

riding position looks upright, seat has some back support. Foot position is fairly neutral. It's a liter bike, so you know it's going to be really quick. Looks like a nice bike - perhaps a graduation gift to yourself?

Has anyone ever seen one with hard luggage? How do you think it would do as a sport/touring bike?

That is the general purpose - it is comparable to the Bandit 1250, just a little lighter and more nimble than the Bandit. The Gen 1 is generally said to be the better touring model and Gen 2 is more twisty oriented. Gen 1 was model years 2001-2005 and Gen 2 is 2006 on.

Those are awesome bikes. I was looking for one before I bought my Bandit. The only thing that kept me from buying one was not being able to find one locally at the time. I'm sure someday I'll add one to my stable.

Guess it depends on the ins company and location. The insurance on the FZ1 would have almost been more for 6 months and I pay for the ST and NH for a year. Just as well, the ST was a bit better for what I needed anyway.

I found FZ1 is a very comfortable and powerful model. Similar to Bandit 1250. I was looking for FZ1 or FZ6 last year before I got my '92 NH. Somehow, FZ1 was very cheap compared to similar bikes (VFR, ST1100, Kawi Concourse, etc.). I almost pulled trigger when I saw a fully farkled (luggage, upgraded shocks, and exhause, etc.) '02 model for $2700 on AdvRider. Instead I got my NH.
I know pre-1250 Bandit has some oil burning issues. Anyone know why FZ1 is much cheaper than similar bikes? Maybe insurance?

I got a few long rides on a newer FZ1 my friend owns. Beautiful bike, handles so sweet and very fast. The ergos are comfortable but compared to my Nighthawk the posture is a bit more aggressive.

The FZ1 is on my list of bikes. I'm watching ebay and craigslist daily. Waiting for a deal to pop up in my price range.
