Tom Bonte, AKA tbonte, and I planned about a week ago to take a ride/camping trip down the Natchez Trace Parkway and camp down in Mississippi.  The plan was to meet at my place, then ride about 30 miles of twisty back roads out to the Parkway and then on down to Tupelo, MS.  Unfortunately Tom called me about 6am Monday morning to say he was sick and wouldn't be coming.  I was already up and had most the stuff packed on my bike so I decided to press on alone.  Hope you're feeling better now Tom.  Wish you could have come along.

Getting ready to head out

Stopped at a nice overlook of some farm land and talked awhile to a BMW rider who'd just gotten back from a ride through Italy.

I pulled off at the burial site of Meriwether Lewis.

All suited up and ready to ride biker_h4h1

The weather was beautiful till I got down to southern Tennessee.  Then I saw a little rain.  I stopped in Collinwood, TN to get some gas and food.  The pulled pork was decent.

Then another 100 miles down to Tupelo, Mississippi, the birthplace of Elvis.  I pulled into Tombigbee State Park to camp.  The lady asked whether I wanted normal or primitive camping.  I went with primitive and ended up being the only person out there.

Mmmmm.  MRE's naughty

At least I got the peanut butter spread in this one.  I hate the cheese spread stuff that comes in some of them.

Two raccoons showed up around midnight hoping I'd left something for them.  They were sorely disappointed.  It was kickstands up at 7am

Two states at the same time

It rained about the first 100 miles of the trip home and I almost hit a turkey that came running out of the woods.  Wish you could have come along Tom.  Maybe we'll try again next week.

I've driven the entire Natchez Trace Parkway, and ridden the very southern 50 miles of it.  I found the riding to be peaceful, and traffic free.  It's not a "peg scraping" kind of ride.  More relaxed - the scenic route.  Did you feel that way too?

BTW - I've only eaten a few MRE's, but the ones with Italian (spagetti and sauce, ravioli, etc) I found to be the tastiest.

Big activity in the ride report board lately.   thumb

Yes, very relaxed riding, almost no traffic, slow sweeping curves, and trees starting to change color.  It's a very sort of peaceful ride.  It gives you a chance to look around and enjoy the scenery.  It's probably a Harley riders dream road.  I took a bunch of twisty back roads at the start of the ride and then some at the end too to help split it up a bit.  I think without that it might have felt a little dull.
