When i was a teen, I liked to take my SL 350 into the woods and attempt to negotiate rough terrain. I had to lay it down more than once and drag it out on its side to get out of messy situations. Since I'd settled on the purchase of another SL 350, I've been researching current owners' adventures in an effort to find out about refurb, parts etc. One fellow over in the ADV racing forum is having a big time with his SL. So far, he's done several motocross events, ridden an observed trials and ridden the Mexican 1000. I went today to look at my first trials event. Those guys are cool. There is a fellow about 40 minutes from me who owns land that he uses for trials events. He said I can ride there anytime. I've got to get that SL ready!

I've always wanted to try trials. I had a little 110cc dirtbike wheelie machine that I would flog out in the woods because it was light and had retarded low end torque, but I eventually delaced the rear wheel and replacing it was more than I paid for the thing.
I would love a real trials bike, something that doesn't have 12" wheels. They're just kind of expensive around here.

Two of the guys in this group are selling older bikes. Have no idea how much. They are in the Carolina-Virginia Trials Assoc.

Nice bunch of guys.

Trials riding is one of the most high skill activities you can do on a motorcycle...anyone who would argue otherwise probably hasn't ever done it.  winker

Neat idea - I know very little about trials riding, other than the obvious.  It seems that most use very small-motored bikes?  Perhaps that SL350 will seem a little heavy?

Its too heavy, too big, but it still would be fun.

Loki:  Two of the club members have bikes for sale. Most of the riders were over 59, several over 60 and one guy had to be 75. Way cool for us old dudes. Most of the guys I saw were intermediate riders, only one expert, but he could make that bike dance. Must of the guys rode GasGas bikes, but one fellow had old montessas, they even had seats.

This guy is my inspiration. Check out some of the things he's doing with the old SL.
