Finally finished up on the rear faring/fender top...had to re-do all of the mounting tabs. Slipped everything together for a quick "after" shot...still have to remove both wheels to get new sneakers tomorrow. Then its back together for a final lighting check before putting the headlight back in. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24526892/102_5082.JPGWho said you can't get a cb750 into the back of an Explorer! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24526892/102_5090.JPGHere she is...pretty ugly. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24526892/102_5480.JPGHope I inserted pics properly...still have some work to do...but we are getting there.

Yeah Jenn, had lots of little things that needed attention...But I saw the potential. Front steering bearings, front wheel bearings and seals, fork seals and wipers. Pine Sol carb soak and rebuild, oil and filter change, some buffing wheel action and a bit of rear light wiring. Now if I can just get the title squared away...I can get some riding in!

The bike looks great. Nice work. Now, get out there and ride it so you can get her dirty again.

Very sharp '82. And nice to see it has the all-too-often-missing side covers. She cleaned up very nicely.

nice looking bike. If you put the img and /img tags on the link the picture will show up in the thread. You could also highlight it and click the button.

Ouch, siting the bike on it's headers like that cant be good. Did it bend any pipes?

I agree that resting the bike on the headers is not the best practice but it probably didn't hurt anything. I have bottomed out on my bike a couple times. Enough to dent in the headers where they turn to go under the bike. Other than those dents the rest of the exhaust is just fine. The point is, if the headers can take licks that dent in the pipe without ill effects to the rest of the headers then resting on it for one car ride probably won't hurt.

The intent was to lay it on it's side, once we cleared the seat back with it on an angle...it sort of fell into that position. Looked good to me at the time so I strapped it in, passed the seat belts through the frame and used the bolt removed from the rear marker light (removed to facilitate laying it on that side...since the bike had been laid down on that side) and secured the front wheel to the trailer hitch just for good measure!
I've had it up to change the oil and filter and to do fork seals and haven't noticed any deformities in the pipes. And have had it running and don't notice any exhaust leak...matter of fact...it's the quietest bike I've ever owned!
Come to find out my local Honda parts guy is married to a Notary...gave him my title yesterday to have that taken care of...should be off to the RMV this afternoon! Got my new tires the other day at the Honda dealer...thought I may as well spend some real money there and secure a good working relationship...plus I got a pretty good deal on some Dunlop 404's $86 front, $116 rear...with mounting, balancing and taxes...$270. Small price to pay for the peace of mind...the old tires had plenty of tread...but dry rot had me worried!

Yeah, and dry rott isnt all. After 3 years, no matter how good the tread is, the tire is hard and dry and is no longer safe around corners or coming to a stop.

Back from the RMV, put in the application for Title and got a 10 day pass to get the bike inspected. Out to put the rear wheel back on and diagnose the rear blinker problem (leaning toward flasher relay). Fronts get brighter when the switch is pushed, but the rears don't come on (ground is good) and don't flash.

LOL...funny Classic...the two rednecks that sold me the bike actually called me an "official redneck" for that move!
Reassembled, took her for a spin around the subdivision (new tires handle great) and swapped out the flasher I found kicking around in the bottom drawer of my tool box. Front blinkers now working...but not the rears...still have a couple of unconnected wires in the headlamp bowl...just waiting on my "real manual" to get here and actually be able to check the wiring diagram for my model.

Mounted the GPS and installed a cigarette lighter type outlet in the top portion of the toolbox and installed new highway pads on the old engine protectors. I looked and looked for this style of tri-mount bars and could not find them anywhere. When the PO crashed this bike...these bars did a great job of saving the engine.
