It's been months and months and Mongo still says he's riding the snot out of the thing, cut him a break.
The Harley people shake their heads when I show up on a Honda. The sportbike guys shake their heads when I show up on a really old standard. The girls shake their heads when I show up on my own. Meh. It's riding the bike often and far that matters most, right?

Well said Jen - Ease up folks. If somebody wants to install a bathtub on their Nighthawk, that's their business.

I just love bikes period! And I apologize for my childish outburst And as soon as I get another camara, I'll be posting an up-dated photo with it camoed plus some of the mods I did. It's not a bobber or rat bike (my opinion), It was things that I could make or modify/ without hindering performance, ride comfort, and some parts like the headlightbrackets/headlights (now 2) and front fender I fabricated simply because it got busted-up when wrecked and I'm too dang cheap to buy another, and mine fits better! Still waitin on my jet kit and new sync gauge! Let's RIDE!!! I got snow chains!!!

This coming from a guy who trailers his bikes!!
I fail to see the point. If I'm going on a trip with someone who wants to trailer his bike, I'm not going to ride alone behind him while he's towing. It's no fun for either of us. I think "bobbers" make you made, cuz you ain't got a saws-all! ...What? I just did a short 200 mile run the other day on my hawk it was 34 degrees.. YOU??? Alas, my bike is 3 hours away from where I am now. It tends to make riding difficult.

I've read some of your other stuff on here and it's obvious you don't like cut on bikes, that's fine. and ther's somethings that are done to bikes I dislike also, But I'm not gonna put them down and tell them; "That's stupid" "why would you that?" "You ruined a perfectly good bike!" It is their bike, Some like stock, some not. I am serious if you're ever up in this neck of the woods, I'll ride with ya!

Ride well Mongo, and we're going to hold you to it regarding those pics.
And I would be thrilled to ride in a bathtub sidecar. Can you imagine the hot humid South, and you're sitting in a nice tub with lukewarm water in it, mesh gear and a half helmet? And when you get to where you're going, you dump in a 20-pound bag of ice and two cases of beer? Nirvana....

I don't mind cutting up bikes if the end product is worth looking at. There are some great looking customs on here, but all too often Nighthawks are poorly modified by people who didn't really want a Nighthawk in the first place. That's what I'm against. Toycoma has a great 750 Cafe. Teamnaptime had a very well done 550 chopper. Bittenbythehawk's 450 brat tracker is an awesome looking bike. There are more, but these stick to my mind best. All of these guys put a lot of effort into their builds and the end result reflects that. And you'll notice none of them made a big deal about the phrase "making it my own". They made genuinely good looking bikes.

I agree, no one said we don't like modified bikes, I've built cafe bikes, and even bought a chopper once (though I unchopped it back into a stock triumph so honestly I only bought it for the engine) . But I've seen way too many bikes like this end up like this That bike is now worthless, WHEN he gets rid of it no one is going to clean that thing up and maintain it. He even painted the damn tires!!! This is the kind of lazy hack job I'm against. This is a forum of people that actually like the Nighthawk, and not because it's all we could afford. Tasteful customs are one thing and if done right they can be awesome looking, but that bike above is ruined. Unfortunately when someone says "hey guys I'm building a nighthawk bobber" there's no telling if he really means "I'm going to blow you guys away with my bike building skills" or if he's saying "I have a whole case of flat black krylon and a sawzall". More often than not it's the krylon sawzall guy, I just hate seeing nice things destroyed for dumb reasons and if my internet ramblings save even one bike from the chopping block then I've done my part. It's not like they're making any more of these bikes, once they're all hacked and flat blacked that's that. I'm not a purist, I'm a preservationist. On a side note just look at that bike, I almost can't look away it's so bad, it's like the perfect storm of bobber fails, it has every single one of the stereotypical hack job mods on it.

I'd like to have one of your fine "georgia peaches" sittin in that tub with a little string bikini...But I'd also like a whole tub of beer too!!
That was tacky and in poor taste. I don't personally know coffee_brake, but I am pretty sure that she doesn't want to be talked to in that manner. Please try and keep it clean and in good taste.
