Hey im Eric Just bought this on Sunday 1992 Cb750 Nighthawk. Totally stock 45k miles. My goal is to turn this into a Cafe Racer by spring time. I know nothing about bikes. But a quick learner.

I'm not trying to do anything crazy to this bike since from I've been reading no buddy likes a nutty hack job. Just new a tank, seat, bars, and mufflers. I want to do cone filters, and clean up the motor area. I like to minimal look so I want to mount the battery under the seat. Like I said I've never had a bike but my friends have been customizing their bikes for a couple of years and will some what guide me through.

Welcome to the forums. First bit of advice would be to ride the bike just the way it is for at least a full season. This way you can get to know your bike for awhile and then choose what you want to change.
Pods generally don't do well with these type of bikes.
Seeing that you're new to bikes, I would definitely take a MSF course before taking it out on the road. And make sure you get and wear ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME. (ATGATT).

Hello and thanks for the welcome. So stock air box is the best bet? I would rather not use it but if using it keeps it running better I guess I'll use it. I know I will be doing the courses and safety programs. I like the bike, but i rather give it my personal touch. I feel the tank is way to wide and I want to put a slimmer one in. Any advice or websites to find ones that will work with minimal change needed? I also want to wrap my pipes and swap the stock mufflers. I want something lighter skinnier. I want to put the bike on a diet. Any suggestions? I know I'm asking a decent amount but I want to do this right rather then fast and not know what I'm getting into.

Wow...a man who knows and accepts the limitations! I also want to wrap my pipes and swap the stock mufflers. I want something lighter skinnier. I want to put the bike on a diet. Any suggestions? I know I'm asking a decent amount but I want to do this right rather then fast and not know what I'm getting into.
Non-stock pipes are kinda like pod filters... If you're going to wrap the pipes you need to make sure they are rust free before you do it...pipe wrap will accelerate any rust that is already there. Also, pipe wrapping ain't as easy as they make it look on TV. I've seen some older tanks modded to fit a late model 750, so that might be a possibility. First bit of advice would be to ride the bike just the way it is for at least a full season. This way you can get to know your bike for awhile and then choose what you want to change.
+1000 Seeing as you are a new rider, it's a good idea to get to know the machine in its current form before making any major mods. Once you log a couple thousand miles you can start customizing to the way you know you want it, not just a way that might look cool. Glad to hear you're going to take a MSF course and rock the gear...you're already proving to be 100% smarter than the average new rider.

The connection isn't the problem with cone filters, you can get ones that slip right on...the problem is that the air doesn't flow correctly through them.

I'm guess too much air at once? I dislike the look of the bulky airbox if I'm able to fab up 2 or 3 plates that would look way nicer around the cones would that help or would it be pointless. I know i feel like I'm asking the same thing over and over. I just want it to be good

Also is it a bad idea to run the bike with nothing attached to the carbs? and what is that pan type of piece on the bottom of the air box?

That pan type piece or box I believe is the breather for the motor if you look on the right side of the valve cover there's a big bulky rubber hose that comes off into a T fitting then one hose goes to the little pan piece and the other I believe to the crank case. I'm putting those little pod filters for breathers and getting rid of those ugly looking hoses and pan piece or box underneath the airbox. As for pod filters for the carb I was gonna do the same thing but I've been reading if you do do the pods make sure you put in a stage 3 jet kit. Now I've read good reviews and bad reviews so maybe do some trial and error and see how your bike performs best either with airbox or pods and jet kit. Good luck I'm also doing a cafe racer with my 92 Honda nighthawk. I found a great article do a search and look up the user toycoma he did a nice build. Good luck!

Yeah ive been drooling over toycoma's bike. Kinda the reason I got 92 nighthawk. Its pretty much what I want in a cafe racer. So its safe to remove the two hoses and put the little air filters on instead?

I honestly don't know. I don't see why not it's just a crank case breather no fluids travel through the hoses. But Thursday I'm gonna put them on and I'll let you know how it goes maybe even post some pictures and see if there's any noticeable issues while riding or not.

Yea I think so I wouldn't want anything to get in there that I wouldn't want in there? Hey I noticed your missing the side covers and you have two batteries? one on each side? Did the previous owner say why they needed two batteries? If your looking for tires I found the my bridgestone Battlax BT023 (front and rear) stick to the road like nothing else! I love taking corners at 80mph + even scrapping peg a few times and Ive never felt more comfortable with anything else. (just food for thought)

I took the plates off it to take the air box out. It only has 1 battery i just put it in the middle of the frame because the air box is part of its mount.
