Deal was to good to pass up. I know nothing about nighthawks except for what i have been reading the last hour online. From what I have read, they didnt make a 750 nighthawk in 84 inside the US, but was made in Canada and is very rare in the US... Is this true?

How can I tell if it is actually is an 84 nighthawk 750?

Would the VIN let me know exactly what it is?

You can look at the front of the engine. If it says 696 its a US 700. If it says 747 its a Canadian 750.

  Wouldn't a Canadian Nighthawk 750 have a metric speedometer?

You might find one in the breakers yard.  http://motordude.nl/motor%20links/Diverse%20bedrijven/sloperijen.htm

There are a few Canadian bikes in Holland. (Or check eBay.ca)

I already have one. Im not looking for one.

I just want to be sure it is what I was told it is... The bike is at my friends house right now. I'll be bringing it to my house to start working on it this weekend and I will be looking for the 747 on the motor... Where would this be stamped?

If you look right between the #2 and #3 headers coming out of the engine, its right there. You might need to wipe it off or look at it with a flashlight. Another thing to look at is the top of the clutch cover. The US 700 is an RC20. I think the CDN 750 is RC17?

Wouldn't the label on the steering neck have CB750SC for the model?

Isnt the 750s chain drive? whereas the 700 is shaft?

I could be totally wrong though.

Sorry, my message was for Mad_Marv. My bike is a 747cc RC17 same engine as a CBX750F. Mind you, the clutch is different from a CB700.
