I hadn’t taken pictures for this to be a ride report but after watching the weekend weather conditions back east I thought some of you might enjoy a little California escape.

Our former exchange student is visiting from Germany so I took him a moto tour on Pacific Coast Highway up through Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades and into the Malibu canyons. Weather was awesome, mid 70’s and sunny. We had a day of rain a few weeks back so things are greener than normal for this time of year.
We could have never guessed, 18 years ago, that the 17 year boy that lived with us in Detroit (my girls were 4 & 6 at the time) would be back riding motorcycles with his "host mom" all these years later.

There is little parking area on a plateau above Piuma Rd which offers a nice pull out to enjoy the view. The road wraps around it almost 360 degrees so you can watch bikes rip through the curve below.

The Rock Store on Mulholland is one of LA’s top motorcycle stops. They are only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. On weekends the collection of bikes that show up is staggering; vintage, exotics, and customs are all here. You will also find a smattering of performance cars and bicyclists, anyone that enjoys the twisty canyon roads. Easy to find people that are up for conversation so you can waste a way some time drooling over rides and chatting. Since we were there on a Friday traffic was light.

Food at the Rock Store is nothing to brag about so we headed on up the coast. Just over the Ventura County line we stopped at Neptune’s Net, another popular place for motorcyclists but gets plenty of auto traffic as well. The obligatory food shot; Neptune’s Sampler (calamari, fish, clams, crab cake, scallops, shrimp and fries), way more than 2 of us could finish.

Good amount of beaches along this route; this is Leo Carrillo, across from the restaurant. Surf didn’t look all that great to me but there seemed to be plenty of surfers out, so what do I know?

When we got home my husband told me that the cashier at the gas station we frequent told him that his wife had been there with some other man that was not only riding his bike but wearing his jacket! Who says LA isn’t a small town?
