couple of days ago i purchased a Honda CB650SC. this is my first motorcycle and i hope not last. the first time i saw it on Craigslist i liked it and i knew it would be a nice bike to learn on and to eventually bobber or retro streetfighter/cafe. but for now it will stay original. when i bought it the front brake were squeaking but thought it was usual brake noise. come to find out after getting it home the brakes are catching. ill have to bleed the brakes and see if that help. if not rebuild them.
the bike looks mint in every way. only thing missing is the tool kit, the left front light is cracked but still presentable and all lights work. even the fuel and gear indicator, it drips oil from the drain plug on the reardrive gearbox only happen after i got it home hasn't dripped since. the bike starts right up barely using choke, gas tank looks clean. fork seals are seemingly good still. only thing i need is to change the oil(s) and fix the front brake problem. i did ride the bike the night i went to look at it. hit 60 mph so i say it still got some zip. considering this bike is as old as i am it look good.
now i have to register and take my written test to get my license. and for any new riders out there take the riding course like i did. its mandatory here in Connecticut but it helps. and wear a helmet.
also id like to update the head lights. found some fog lights at wal-mart. is it possible to wire those up and use them as head lights. says there 55w H4's
Ride safe,

It's hard to tell in the dark lighting, but that thing looks pretty mint. I've got a rather ugly spray painted 650 I'll trade you if you want something to chop/bobber/cafe Welcome aboard

Nice Bike.
Adding Lights: The charging system is marginal so you cannot add much to the current load without problems.
Keep it unmodified and you will have a fun & dependable ride.
Ride Safely..... get safety gear and wear it all the time. Take the MSF training and practice a lot.

thanks a lot guy for the compliments. ill try and get some day light pics soon.
i did take the riding course a couple of weeks ago and passed. i just have to go to the dmv and pass the written test to get the magical M on my license. dreading the visit because here in Connecticut DMV is a all day thing.
i dont want to add the light to the bike btw. i would like to replace the square headlight with those driving lights. any tips or better options. heard the buel light were a popular choice.
thanks, mdange2011

I don't think you can use a foglight as a headlight because they are not dual beam (hi and low)
Where in Ct are you. I live in the Colchester area and always looking for riding partners

$825 for that?? That's a great looking bike. It's way too pretty to bob or make into a chopper. Like you said, ride it stock for a while. The desire to mod it will slowly go away (or at least it did for me). At least ride, for a reasonable distance, a bike similar to what you want. Go back to the Nighthawk and you'll appreciate the comfortable riding position and everything else about it. There's very little reason to make drastic changes to a Nighthawk, whether you're a hard charger or a laid back cruiser. Seriously, if you insist on bobbing it or rattle canning it, I'll ride up there and trade bodywork with you. That bike is gorgeous. Hell, even the notoriously fade prone left switch housing on the handlebar is a deep black. As for lighting, I installed an HID kit on my bike to get increased lighting as well as reduce power consumption. As ExTex said, the electrical system on these bikes is not enough to charge the bike below 2k RPM's, and it definitely can't handle those lights.

ok guys. insured, reg, and got my license. so after riding the HAWK for 100 miles or so i think i like the way it is. only thing i can say i want to do is get different handle bars. lower ones. with that said i love the bike. it is perfect learner and just great. i am abandoning the bobber or cafe idea. this bike is too mint to cut up. when i say everything works i mean everything and only thing missing is the tool kit. just need a new right front brake rebuild. stays up with my friends 2011 cbr 600rr. cant complain to much about it. i need to do oil change. already changed the diff oil.

Woohoo! Another victory for stock over trashed!
You should do a bit of research on the forum before replacing the handlebar. Many bars are too low and will result in contact with the gas tank. The results are hideous. Just make sure whatever you buy can clear the gas tank from lock to lock.

$825 for that?? I sat in Australia last month and watched a near-mint running 650 go for $550 on eBay in my own city. That one hurt a bit.
