I've been sorely tempted by and am soon to give in to this lovely British beauty: A 2011 Triumph Thunderbird 1600 w/ABS. She's a demo so the price is right. I know that many of you lean toward the sport and sport touring side of the house, but my riding style (and back) is more suited to cruisers. I've always wanted a sizeable cruiser for big trips but I just did not want a v-twin. I have to admit, the upright twin and symetrical long pipes / side covers makes her a cruiser with the heart of a standard in my eyes So the far the test ride has been great.. she's powerful and handles very well for the size. Anybody here have one or have ridden one of these? Worry not, "Precious" is not going anywhere. She has been a fantasitc test bed for trips and will remain a cherished member of my stable

As far as cruisers go I like the looks of that one. I personally have nothing against cruisers other than the riding position, it makes my back hurt.

That's a good looking bike. The riding position looks a lot more neutral than most cruisers. I bet that HUGE twin has a ton of torque. Congrats - let us know your impressions of the bike after you have ridden it a while.

A cruiser is a more relaxing ride and I too have one. See my avatar which shows my main ride, an '06 HD Sportster 1200 Custom. I looked at the Thunderbird when they first came out but they were too expensive.

So far I am amazed at the low end torque and power at such low rpms. Being accustomed to a higher rev range on my vintage UJM's, I had to keep checking the tach on this one because I felt like I was too low at first That looks awesome. You said that She's a demo so the price is right. Any nicks or dings that come with it? Not that I can tell so far A cruiser is a more relaxing ride and I too have one. See my avatar which shows my main ride, an '06 HD Sportster 1200 Custom. I looked at the Thunderbird when they first came out but they were too expensive.
Relaxing to be sure but I'm astounded at the comfort and how well the stock ergonomics work for me. I did over 100 miles today with no windshield and for the first time, ZERO back pain. Even with all the comfort inprovements to my beloved Precious, my back would have started to squawk by at least 50 miles. Very nice Sporty you have there Steve. I once had a '90 1200 Sporty and though she was gorgeous, the four speed (missed the fiver by one year) and the hard mounted engine made her a rough ride. I was so happy that they finally went rubber mounted in the '04 model year! Strange how things go...if wasn't for crashing her back in '98 (a cage ddidn't see me in time), I probably would be on a Dyna by now. I must admit, this T-bird is an amazing machine. She's powerful but well mannered with a satisfying rumble and the OEM exhaust has a nice growl without being obnoxious. Yeah I'm hooked.

Just wanted to check in and say so far so so good with my T-bird! In recogniton of her British origins and one of my favorite movies, I have dubbed her "Mrs. Kensington" I had a minor hard starting issue but that was dealt with under warraty no sweat. I've attached a pic showing her decked out and ready for action. Now that she is now my big and comfortable "touring" bike, I'm amazed at how light and nimble my Nighthawk "Precious" feels to me now and I find myself riding her more aggressively nowadays I love my new ride but my Precious is the still the all around best motorcycle I've ever owned / maintained / ridden but y'all aready know that .

I had no idea this model even existed. I do applaud anything that deviates from the v-twin orthodoxy. And thanks for keeping Cross Country in Metuchen afloat, as they have a pretty good selection of gear there. And some of the staff is not stupid also.

Wonder how that bike sounds? That appears to be a very long bike (long wheelbase) - the passenger must be able to ride in goldwing like comfort.

So true...apparently Triumph wanted to come up with something in between the smaller America / Speedmaster and the behemoth Rocket III. The T-bird's closet HD competitor is the Dyna Wide Glide I believe. Yes I've been very pleased with that dealership so far and you're right, they have an outstanding display of gear. Wonder how that bike sounds? That appears to be a very long bike (long wheelbase) - the passenger must be able to ride in goldwing like comfort. I'm running the stock mufflers so for me its a satisfying growl. I'll try Hockeyhawks's suggestion and attempt to make a video. I'll have to get back to you on passenger comfort as I need to install the adjustable floorboard kit as my lady cannot flat foot the stock pegs. Thanks again for all the kind comments!
