Nighthawks are just CB's with the name "nighthawk", starting in the 80's. It's really that simple. They are updated versions of the famous 69 CB 750...same bike really, with some modren updates and a name, that all. Look at the tag on your steering colum...it will say "CB 750".
EDIT - if Im not mistaken, the first CB was the 1965 CB 450 ("the black bomber"). It was faster than the Triumph and Harley 650's of the time, but the public wanted big CC's, so the 450's didnt sell real well. In 69 Honda decided to up the size to a CB750, and this bike shook the world because it offered a lot of first's, plus more features in one bike than ever before seen, front disc brake, electric starter, no oil leaks, reliability, no vibrations, and awesome power with the inline 4. It was the '64 mustang of motorcycles, as people camped out at dealerships to get them.
They sold 10 for every one Triumph or Harley, and the one out of 10 who bought the triumph usually brought it back later to trade it in for a CB750. Dealers ran out fast. One could order one, but it took 3 months, and people were offering money on the dealers personal CB750's so they wouldnt have to wait. The 69 CB750 changed motorcycle design forever. Most magizenes have it ranked the #1 most significant bike in history.
