When I put my 85 650 up for sale a few month ago the plan was to look for a 99-03 1200 bandit that i could eventually set up with a givi hard bag and trunk set up, my budget was too low to buy one fully set up already. At the time I was not familiar with the FZ1 but when cmyers posted this up http://nighthawk-forums.com/index.php/topic,11893.0.html I really liked the look and thought it was styled very much like the bandit 1200 so I decided to do some research. It seems like between the FZ1 and the Bandit they are both very popular and each have a loyal following. Since then I've been watching craigs list and ebay daily with no luck. I was out bid 2 times on ebay and had one bought out from under me through craigs list. Last week I was watching a classified add (not auction) on ebay for an 03 FZ1 that is fully farkled out and has only 16k on the clock. I was going to make the 3 hour drive to look at it and never made it. It was bothering me all week so today I called the guy back and the bike was still available so I decided to go. I loaded up the trailer and headed out, 300 miles and about 7 hour later I now have a new stablemate in the garage. It's going to need tires and a battery and I want to change the handle bars back to stock with a 1" rise, the PO put on some more aggressive bars that are a little too low for me. Anyway, here are a couple pics for now. I'll post up some better pics after I take a bucket of soapy water to it.

Nice!

I test drove the FZ1 and I liked it a lot. I mean hey, its no FJR but it looks like you got it setup nice. Now just bring it out to Colorado over Labor Day weekend next year so we can all see it.

It was tough fighting off the FJR urge  poke but it just wasn't in the budget. Colorado most likely will not happen 36hrs one way  figwav But deals gap has already been talked about with SOQS, looks pretty good.

Nice setup! I spent yesterday riding with a group of women. One was on a FZ and another on a Bandit 1250. Toss in a Yami 1100 cruiser, a Kawasaki Z1000 and a Guzzi Rosso Corsa plus my "baby" Triumph and you have an interesting mix.  happy1

The FZR is a much more sophisticated machine than a Bandit 1200.  I knew of a guy that took really long trips on the FZ1 and he had no complaint on comfort or performance.

Love the blue color, hate the top case.

Congrats on your new ride HH.  That bike looks a lot loke the 919 Hornet.  The color looks very close to the color of my bike as well.  IIRC, that bike came stock with a 4-1 exhaust, but it appears that yours has an aftermarket can on it?

Besides tires and battery, may I also suggest you bleed/flush the brakes/clutch, and flush/flush/replace the coolant.  Looks like the chain needs a good cleaning as well.  What is the service interval on the valves for that bike?

Looking forward to hearing about your impressions of the bike.

Congratulations, I had a great time on my weekend ride on an FZ1 last year.  I used my friend's bike when I was visiting him.  For me it was an effortless bike to ride.

Everything I've read says it is a great bike for touring and is comfortable for long hauls. I'm 6' and about 240ish, the guy I bought it from is 6'2" and even heaver and he never had any trouble on long trips.

Congrats on your new ride HH.  That bike looks a lot loke the 919 Hornet.  The color looks very close to the color of my bike as well.  IIRC, that bike came stock with a 4-1 exhaust, but it appears that yours has an aftermarket can on it?

It does have an after market exhaust, it is also jetted and has a timing advance kit on it, She runs very strong.

I will be doing all of the fluids, The plan is to go over the whole bike over the winter and have it ready to go in April.

I will put up a report once I get some seat time in.

Congratulations, I had a great time on my weekend ride on an FZ1 last year.  I used my friend's bike when I was visiting him.  For me it was an effortless bike to ride.

It does seem effortless fish, she just seems to fall into the turns.

That sounds great beerman. I'm hoping there is going to be another rally there this year, if so that is when I'm going. I'd love to meet and ride with you.  thumb

HH - I am incredible jealous; I really want one, but keep telling myself I should wait until I graduate in the spring. If you havent found it all ready - http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/index.shtml this site is a pretty good place for all things FZ1

What is the service interval on the valves for that bike?

Pants: Valve check interval is 26K miles. and most riders find that no adjustment is needed on the first check and only small adjustments by the second interval check.

I've always liked the FZ's. Congratulations, yours looks nice. I'm thinking they're 20 valve engines?

That is exactly what I hear about the FJR as well - same interval too.

Actually there are quite a few similarities between those two bikes.

That looks like a great bike, congratulations. The FZ1 is on my short short list of possible stable additions. It's great that it came with the hard bags - you're all set for touring  biker_h4h1.

I took the fz1 for a short ride yesterday, one thing it has in common with the FJR is they are both FAST. I think i'm going to love this bike.

Well considering that the FZ1 is nearly the exact same weight as the NH750, but every performance value is almost doubled I wouldn't expect anything less. Enjoy that new bike safely as it can very quickly and easily get away from you.

Very sweet.

I tried, I really tried, to love the FZ1 but the riding position just feels wrong. It is an excellent machine with a well-deserved loyal following, but didn't fit me like the Bandit did.

You're gonna love that bike.

Burgi I'm so jealous, I can't find a single other woman rider around here that has the guts to ride anything but a cruiser knock-off.
