Hey guys, I was wondering if ignition switches from different models or model years would fit my 1982 CB450SC.
Or does anyone know where to get an aftermarket one?

Thanks.

Ebay is going to be your best bet.  If you can't find anything there, you might have to do what I did and wire a toggle switch in and hide it somewhere.  I haven't seen any aftermarket switches that would be a direct bolt in fit.

You might try some of the places online that have parts breakdowns, find the part number for it and then use the "it fits" button. That will at least let you know if there are other years or models that will fit it in your search.

ebay is a great place to look. However, you'll need the key with it, and sometimes they don't include that. So, if you can't find one there, then here is an aftermarket one that looks identical to the stock 450 switch:

You could also cross reference the part number with that of the 82 650, or the 81 650 custom. I think they might also work for your bike if you can't find anything else.

This is an older thread and I have the same issue with the same bike. 1982 CB450SC.

I have no ignition switch at all. Just the connector into the main harness and wires from that connector that use to go to a switch assembly. So I don't even have a broken switch to match up to a replacement.

Nothing on e-bay in the last 3 weeks will fit this application.
I have been to a wrecking yard and got a switch with a plug in connnector that matches. The switch does not fit the top bridge won't bolt in and it did not have a key. (Only cost $5 so not much risk there)

I have been to the EMGO catalog and they don't make a replacement that fits thye application. I have been to the Honda Parts nation site for partnumbers and the factory # for my ride is 35100-443-921 which is not the same number for anything except 82-85 CB450SC

However the link to the dealer site listed above looks very tempting. It is a $25 risk. Just wondering if any one has done this?

My bike was in the rain a couple days ago, the lights came on and I was able to start it without a key. eventually it blew a fuse. I got my bike with an aftermarket ignition switch an I guess it's failing. If you find a new ignition switch please send it to me, I mean any info that is.  banana

As a side note I won't have that problem. It doesn't rain in Phoenix.

And I have other issues with sun baked plastics, however that is a topic for a different thread.

2nd pic from the top ..... is the switch just laying in there? Or is it bolted to the top bridge?

If it is bolted to the top bridge, what switch did you use?

This was the way I got the bike. The switch was just spliced into the harness and held in mid air with the #12 gauge stranded wire that they used. I fabed up a bracket a few months back to actually hold it in place. I believe it's an ignition switch from a boat, was gonna head to E & B marine to see what they offer as a replacement. I really gotta re-check the contacts of the originial switch in my wiring diagram. maybe visit my lawn tractor repair guy.

Thanks for the reply.

This is a very limited application part. And I may resort to switches versus a locked switch.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/5/86/37338/DPITEM/Street-Bike-Ignition-Switches-Emgo-Ignition-Switch.aspx

I sprayed a little silicone spray in the ignition, and had some new keys cut.  After a few weeks of use it is now working 100%.  I suspect mine had a little corrosion on the contacts inside and now it has cleaned up a little.

I was looking at this post, and the photograph looks exactly like my ignition switch.  I suspect a cb650 1982 would have the same switch, but I am not 100% sure.

Good luck!
