Tried on a Speed and Strength XL jacket (textile).  It fits snug, but I don't feel confined (lifted my arms above my head).  I'm 5'9" and go about 180lbs.  No beer belly so the jacket zips up real smooth.  I'm just used to a 'jacket' feeling a little looser.  Make sense?

I'm thinking that a bike jacket should be kinda' snug as you want it to stay where it is if you hit the pavement.

Any thoughts?

As long as you have necessary range of motion without discomfort, the snugger the better.  Any constriction would be bad.

You want the armor to stay where it belongs and the amount of possible rubbing between yourself and the garment to be minimal.  Plus, flapping in the breeze is annoying.

The fit of street clothing has other things in mind than protective clothing.

Snug is good if you still have full range of motion but be cautious if you want to wear a layer under the jacket in cooler weather. Might want to try it on over another layer if you plan on using that way.
