I managed to make my old motorcycle explode (1985 Yamaha Maxim 700x) and was scrambling to find something to replace it with. My brother bought this bike about five years ago before deciding that he should not ride motorcycles. He stashed it away in a shed and forgot about it until he was given 30 days notice to move the bike. Sold it to me for $300.

I'll post pics after it's cleaned up and ready to go, but so far, nothing too major to worry about. My father-in-law went over it from top to bottom and is more impressed every day.

welcome...... from over on the Eastern Shore.

Like Option said, looks like it should clean-up nicely. I'm partial to that color scheme as you can tell from my avatar.

Replace all the fluids*, the tires and battery and it should be pretty sweet.

* Motor oil, fork oil, brake fluid, clutch hydraulic fluid, fuel, blinker fluid...

Thanks!

All the fluids have been checked, and the bike has been THOROUGHLY gone over from top to bottom. My father-in-law is an extremely patient man, and he took every little thing apart except for the engine itself. Carbs have been rebuilt (bike came with the kit--gotta love brothers with more money than sense!); filters checked, cleaned, replaced; gas tank cleaned, repainted (my first paint job, and only one mistake!); tires were actually so new they still had the nubs on them; washed, wiped, and polished.

And, to top it all off, my brother-in-law had a second Maxim X that was full of issues, but between the two bikes (his and my old one) we were able to build one beautiful, working bike. Everyone wins is the motto, I guess.

I hope you mean you put new tires on it. Even if those tires were new way back when and haven't had a mile on them, they would need to be replaced. The rubber gets old, hard, and dry rotted, and while that may fly for a car, on a bike where any loss of traction could put you on the ground you really need to use good tires.

I'm surprised, just by the looks of that picture, that you didn't find any squatters taking up residence in your airbox.

Nice find. Looks like it should shine up pretty well. A barn/shed find in that condition is a rare thing.

I would say this still qualifies as a barn find. I'm a big geek for barn find stories and pics of any vehicle with a gas engine! thumb

Awesome find at a great price!

You can check the date of the tires with a DOT numbers on the sidewall.  Generally you don't want to use tires over 5 years old, then get dry, cracked and harden up.

How many miles?  How bout some 'after' pics!

The bike is still at my wife's parents' house--I don't have the space to work on it, and it still needs a few little things.

As soon as I get it though, this forum will be loaded with pics.

The rumor is that I'll be picking it up this weekend. I don't want to get my hopes up, just in case, but things are looking good.

I cannot wait to ride again--it's been beautiful, and I am stuck driving a truck.

Here it is! I'm hoping to get more pictures this weekend, when I'm off work, but she is running like a champ!

I used to ride an 85 Yamaha Maxim 700X, and this is a much smoother, more comfortable ride. I am actually happy I blew up the Maxim.

You DEFINITELY traded up! I am partial to red/black as well. The CB700sc turns a LOT of heads and is always a conversation starter. You are going to love it.

Here's mine:
