The ADD Regional Bike Tours continue with this last minute, mapless ride up to Great Barrington, MA.  My only goal was to take Rt. 7 as far as I could.  Scuttlebutt has it that the farther north you go on 7, the more beautiful it gets.  They ain't lyin'.

Entering Connecticut (though this shot is actually from on the way home.  N. Canaan is at the top of Ct.):

Kent Falls in Kent, Ct.:

Really, I was surprised I made it all the way to Massachusetts:

But boy was it worth it!  These photos do no justice to how sweet the riding really was:

I'm genetically wired to stop and photograph all old trains:

Cornwall, Ma.

Great Barrington Town Hall:

My entry into the Refrigerated Rider Contest:

Waiting patiently for the ride back home:

I was pretty cold by the time I got back to southern Connecticut.  Temps in the low thirties and no heated gear - brrrr.  I definitely want to explore Rt. 7 again come spring time.  Especially up into northern Massachusetts.
Well, that's all.  Happy hibernating everyone (At least, those of us that have to hibernate!   friday)

Beautiful! How are those hippo hands treating you?
They're indispensable but not enough.  Also, mine are just knock-offs made for atv's, not real Hippo Hands.  I should really get heated gloves if I'm going to keep this sort of thing up  wacko

I'd love to take this sort of trip but would never think of doing it between Halloween and St. Patrick's day without freakishly unseasonable warmth.  I dig the off-season thinking, and the utter lack of traffic, but I like my cold weather riding in controlled short bursts.
I also like the minimal luggage.  That's how it's done.

 happy1 Thanks FearThis!

HC - funny you mention luggage.  The yellow bag is a beautiful Sea to Summit 20L dry bag that my mountain climbing brother got me for Christmas.  It's the perfect size, though I'm glad I didn't get to check how waterproof it is.

Also, thanks to fortyhourdays for mentioning the duct tape sun visor a while back.  It works like a charm!

Way to go road tripping in the cold, even with our mild winter is still too cold for me to ride that far.  Next time you come up this way try the Taconic State Parkway for the return ride.  It's just over the border in New York and it's very scenic and enjoyable.

Thanks fishball.
The Taconic is nice - and quick to get to from where we're located so it's a perfect escape route.
Have you tried Rt 301 that connects Carmel, NY with Cold Spring?  It crosses the Taconic, which is why I mention it, and it's a blast to ride.  Cold Spring is a nice little town, too.
