Pick this bike up back in Nov 2011 In CA , Mom was moving back east so shipping was going to be easy , paid $500 for it .
So when I got it back to GA 1st thing i had to do was get it running , carbs came off cleaned , started right up , then i had to take it for a ride. 2 nd gear would not stay in on a up shift, but would on a down shift, so out came motor . so it starts , so far i have rebuilt the carbs , painted all the plastic , I love the 86 RBW So i ordered decals for that one. then the frame and all else needed to be painted . so i tore it all the way down . and this is how it sit now . i try to work on it every day.

Wow. Beautiful restoration! I always wondered why people paid extra for the RWB 700S's, then restored and repainted them. Your conversion looks to be going quite well. Too bad some of the photos don't show up on my computer.

For anyone who can't see the photo album, click the link, then click "michael keigwin's Gallery", and then on the 700S album. You'll see what starts off looking like an '85 parts bike go well on its way to becoming a full blown RWB.

Why can't you get the frame powdercoated? Your guy doesn't have a big enough oven?

And are you going for a full on conversion? Hppants used to have an '84 or '85 with RWB bodywork and the polished parts didn't look bad at all.

Looks incredible so far! Are you planning on using any sort of Back-to-Black plastic restorer on the side cover?

Your Nighthawk is coming together nicely and I love the paint scheme. You even managed to find the OEM warning sticker for the tank! Awesome job so far.

what ended up happening with second gear? my 82 is doing something similar.
was it the transmission or just a clutch problem?

looks great by the way, im very jealous.

Identical project going on here.I bought my 85 that had been painted with all intentions of a factory blue/black refinish, but after seeing a RWB I changed my mind.Have the decals and paint in the garage.Seeing your pictures got me motivated to start sanding and priming. If the end results are even close to yours,I'll be very happy.Your work is outstanding!

Looking fantastic so far!  I'm curious as to what you've done or plan to do to the wheels?   lurker
