Wow and nobody has hurt anybody's feelings while sharing differing opinions!

On the Bandit forum, I just got my as$ handed to me for expressing the idea that my less-expensive Scorpion EXO-400 fits my long-oval head far better than my old expensive Arai did, for a third the price, half-price face shields, and it's lighter and quieter. Saying the EXO-400 is a better helmet for me was like telling a Harley pirate that a Nighthawk IS a real bike.
The $hitstorm that followed was just ugly. Seems with the Bandit crowd, you're a neanderthal if you just don't "get" the benefits of $500 helmets. More expensive is better.

I told 'em Harleys are more expensive but they aren't better. If more expensive is better, then we all need to throw our $2000 to $5000 Bandits in the ditch and go take out loans for BMWs, Ducatis, and anything more exotic and expensive.

Bee and others, I know you're going to pipe up about those Shoeis and Arais of yours, and I'm glad you've found a helmet that fits. Nobody's slamming your choice of gear--and please don't slam mine 'cause it's cheaper and comes in odd graphics. I'm still trying to find an even better helmet but NOTHING fits like my cheaper Scorpions, including expensive Arais. Can't tolerate any Shoei for more than 5 minutes.

No I just meant that for Jenn (and myself) we are quite happy with Scorpions. (They fit our oval heads)

I try on every full-face helmet I can find in a size XS. Bell hasn't offered one that fits me yet. Nobody has. HJC briefly carried the CS line, but that has gone the way of the dodo, and they were truly cheap, as in low quality, helmets.

Icon has a model that fits in their Air lineup, but it costs twice as much and fits me no better than the Scorpions.

curiosity strikes me what is the deffinition of a cheap/low quality helmet? i mean i mainly come from a background of dirt style helmets and the chinbar vent covers would usually crack or break, but its not usually something that affects anything but cosmetics. same with a visor or goggle "holders" that are just glued on rubber. and all of that is pretty normal among some helmets no matter the brand/price.

I've got an EXO 400, but I'm due for a replacement soon. I've been thinking of stepping up to an EXO 800 or 1000. As far as I'm concerned I'll buy Scorpions as long as they make them. thumb

For me, cheap is low-quality in areas like the breath guard and the pivots for the face shield. I can live with paint that chips easily and a vent trim coming off, but the shield pivots need to work.
The HJC breath guard on the CS fell off the first week, and the pivots on the face shield wore out so bad in one year that the shield would go up in the wind. And if you looked at it sideways, the face shield would come off the helmet. This happened on two identical helmets at the same time. Then, they discontinued the shields right after I got the helmets, so I scavanged every new faceshield I could find...which was a waste, because the pivots wore out and the shield were ruined when they fell off.

The EXO-400 (and EXO-700) have much better pivots and changing the face shields is really easy. You can buy replacement pivots if you need, and you can still get a wide variety of replacement liners for a good price.

I still keep finding new old stock EXO-400s on Ebay for really good prices. Often, I can pick them up for the price of a face shield, so I just get a helmet instead of a new faceshield. They make a ruby-rose colored tinted shield that didn't sell well because I guess it's pink. Well they're cheap enough and I have a little hoard of them for my EXO-400s.

My HJC was great. I would never bash anybody who had a different helmet than me. I went with the Shoei because it had all of the bells and whistles that I wanted, which my HJC didn't have. The nice thing about the HJC was that I could buy a replacement for every component on that helmet if need be. I still have the HJC as a back up helmet, or for passengers. Scorpions are sweet helmets too. My brother has one and really likes it.

hmmm thanks for the info i just bought a HJC CS-R1 Daggar and i will deff keep an eye on the faceshield pivot areas  bugey cause i do have a tendancy, when i ride with my dad, to put the faceshield up and down a lot(he likes to stop a lot). but i guess if it goes out im not out too much, i got it on sale for like 60 i think it was.

If the EXO-400 fits you well, the EXO-1000 will NOT!!!

I had one and had to take it back. It hurt my head and there was a lot of space around my ears, making it the loudest helmet I have ever worn.
It's a very good helmet for a round head. It does not fit us folks with the oval heads.

sad.....wonder if scorpion could be convinced to add some of the 1000 features to the 400's. maybe the cheek pads and all, i like the idea of the inflatable/customized fit of the cheek pads.

It took a few emails, but motorcycle-superstore.com finally came through and refunded all the money paid for the visor including shipping charges both ways.
