i chose my vfr800 because it has a single side swing arm, a v4 engine and its not a full raced out bike like the cbr600/1000. also it wouldn't kill me on insurance while still being fun and able to keep pace with my friends r6/cbr600/ninja. needless to say it is a jack of all trades and has unique features mentioned. so i wound sound nor look like every other bike that will pop up this spring. i liken it to being a connoisseur that know what to look for rather than someone wanting to get a the newest shiniest thing at the dealer not dissing new bike. for my budget and practical mind set this will do just fine. anyone can buy a motorcycle but i would like to be able to pick mine out of a crowd of my same make and model. i hate following the masses...thats why to this day i die a little every time i see a person with a apple product. lol...  we all ride for different reason and that's why they make so many bikes. some end up mint garage queens and some end up meeting the mr.sawsall.....do what make you feel right and just wave when you see someone on something with two wheels,  cause when it come down to it we all love to have our knees to the wind. mdange

So why did you choose the bike that you did? Was it because it had everything you wanted? Was it that you wanted to distinguish yourself from the above and/or other categories/models? Was it the price?
I was just looking for a bike to start, something 90's or newer, and it had to be a sporty standard or naked bike. My dad found out that a customer of his was moving and needed to unload a few bikes. I was told it was a 700S at first, and got my heart set on that, but came to find out it was a 650. Why did I go through with it instead of keeping on looking? It had extremely good reviews when new, wasn't any slower than the 700S I was fawning over, it was feature packed, had an upright riding position, no glaring issues with the design, and most importantly of all the price was too good to ignore when other people wanted far too much for their bikes. It was a good enough bike at a good enough price from a trusted seller who wasn't pushing me a mountain of BS. I could care less about looking different so long as I like the way it looks. Not to say my bike is stock. I've painted the signals gloss black (they were already scratched and I hate excess chrome), as well as the foot controls. It's got a fairly hard to find Hondaline luggage rack, as well as Hondaline crash bars, both of which I installed after purchasing the bike. If you're making the bike different, and only doing so so as to be different, you're still being driven by the crowd. Being yourself is making it the way you like, not how everyone else doesn't have it. And you know what? I get compliments all the time on it, because people assume old bikes must be ratted out. Because that's what a bunch of new bikers think is different - because stock old bikes are a dime a dozen in the sea of sportbikes, ya know?

Option13 sounds like price and it had what you wanted in a bike. Different than someone else may have been looking for.
I would question your assumption on ratting old bikes. I don't profess to be on expert on the issue by any means. Bobbing bikes has been around a lot longer than you and probably myself. I wouldn't choose it for my only bike, if any, but maybe add it to a collection.
It might be better understood to say it's not so much that I am a fan of them but more I respect their right to do so.

Bobbers were originally mean to make bikes faster. But that was when people riding 700 lb Harleys wanted to go fast, and the bike was already a hardtail. It has its origin in speed. Making a bobber out of a Nighthawk only makes it slower.
Ratting a bike has it's origins in people trying to keep cheap bikes going on pennytech repairs. The act of purposely making your bike look like your trying to keep it limping along (and actually paying money for flat black and crummy parts along the way) is the ultimate in poser bike modding - intentionally compromising something so that it looks like you had to. They can do what they want, but that doesn't mean they should come on here and expect to be complimented on the bike for doing so.
Custom is one thing. Destroying is another.

so update. i sold my nighthawk. sold it to a coworker that just needs it to commute to work. he wants nothing to do with a bobber. so another night hawk saved. btw...i sold it after a all day 140 +mile ride across Connecticut. id say thats a good way to end my ownership of my nighthawk. now its time to get familiar with my new vfr800. was nice while it lasted.
