I bought my brand new 1985 CB700SC Nighthawk S in March 1986 (I still have it). At the time my main ride was a 1979 Yamaha XS-1100 which had massive mid-range torque but handled like it had a rubber frame. The Nighthawk took care of that with it's razor sharp handing but I missed the torque of the Yamaha.

I was SO hoping that Honda would follow the Nighthawk S with a 1,000cc or 1,100cc version. If they had done so, I would not have this today:

This is a 2003 Kawasaki Concours that I have extensively modified. The list of mods include the following:

01) Replaced engine with 2003 ZRX 1200 R engine and converted it to shaft drive and six-speed transmission from another Concours engine.
02) Replaced the front forks from the same bike I took the engine from. Larger tubes (43mm vs, 41mm), fully adjustable damping, huge brakes and 17" wheel.
03) Added Audiovox electronic cruise control.
04) Replaced the stock rear wheel with a modified Kawasaki 2006 VN1600 Mean Streak wheel which is 17" X 5". With this modification, I have 17" wheels front and rear vs. stock 18" front, 16" rear.
05) Many, many minor modifications too numerous to mention here.

The result is a huge increase in mid-range torque, razor sharp handling and massive brakes. All without compromising the comfort of the long haul touring capabilities. I can cut up the canyons in full combat mode and take no prisoners or pack up the saddlebags and head across the country in total comfort.

Best of both worlds.

before getting my 450nh i was thinking about a 700 or 750 nh. i decided against it because i had two 750 hondas already and wanted something different, now a nh 1000 would have been perfect

Dan.......did I see a discussion of this project over on the Concours forum? I remember someone gathering the parts to do the build.

Dan, that is an awesome looking bike. You ask why
there is no such bike offered, well, I say you submit
your resume to the big 4.

That is a sweet Kawi.

I had one for a year, minus some of the extras you added.

It was a great bike....wish I had the fancy paint job like you got.

Here's what Honda really should replace the NH with.  This was shown at the Tokyo MC show last year.    Why can't Honda (and the other mfgs) understand that not everyone whats a cruiser or crotch rocket.  If they would checkout forums like this they would realize that many riders are looking for a practical comfortable bike just like this one!  This site says a possible release date in 2009!!! http://www.twowheelsblog.com/tag/honda+cb+750+four

Does a Honda 919 qualify as a replacement for the NH?

That would have been my replacement.

Dan, that is one awesome Kawi!

I too wish Honda would put out another Nighthawk or, at the very least that 919 pictured above.

I wish they would just sell the nighthawks they make in Japan here......

QFT. I remember falling in love with a Euro Spec NH in "Ride Magazine" only to be a little crestfallen with the drum brake version we got here....

I would love to see a bonneville-esque retro Cb750 with chrome fenders and dual megphones.

It's the nearest thing Ive seen in recent years to a nighthawk, I just wish it had more of the maintenance free features like shaft drive.

By the way, I agree the nighthawk s would be sweet in a 1000 with wider tires maybe too.
There's always the super 4's too if u like big inline 4s
