Greetings!
Total noob here. Took the MSF Rider's Edge course back in September of last year and finally found a deal good enough for my miserly ways. A family member just sold me this for $500!
On the to do-list is change all fluids, tires, brakes, new turn signals, mirrors and headlight stay. Not to mention a thorough cleaning and restoration of all finished surfaces. If anyone has a line on a headlight stay I, would be much obliged. The only place I have found one is on bikebandit.com and they want over $100 for it.
Oh, BTW.. she's a '91 750. She won't be ugly for long if I can help it!

It's badly bent from the previous owner wrecking it... twice. I'm going to see if maybe I can sand the rust off where the paint is missing, bend it and rattle can it back to serviceable standards. If not, I will certainly take your suggestion and rig up something "custom" with some aftermarket parts. Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone! It may not show, but I am SUPER excited about this bike and the potential it has.

If you can sign up for a refresher course, I would. I can't imagine much retention with no practice for so long. I'm going to see if maybe I can sand the rust off where the paint is missing, bend it and rattle can it back to serviceable standards. Oh fancy. I'd just clamp and hammer and be done with it. This is actually what a shop did after I banged up my last bike. I can post my vise and rubber mallet photo...

I never did take my MSF voucher card in to get my M stamp on my license since I didn't think I would have a bike in the foreseeable future. My plans are to go get my learners permit for now and then go take the advanced riders course. With the advanced course I will also get a waiver for the riding portion of the license test. hello and welcome to nighthawk forums soupskin, your bike isn't ugly but do loose the stickers and good luck with your project
Stickers are gone as of today. Along with the thick coating of motor oil and road grime. I think the oil cooler is leaking. Swing arm and triple tree stands should be here tomorrow to let me have more fun!

soupskin, welcome aboard! What kind of handlebars do you have on your bike, they do not look like stock? Do the handlebars clear the tank when you turn them? One more thing do you have a riser installed? If you do not mind, could you post a picture of the handlebars when sitting on the bike?

They were not stock and did not clear the tank. The previous owner put them on there and when he crashed it, sent the turn signal module into the tank leaving behind a large dent and bending the bars. I put the stock bars back on yesterday. Fortunately, they are not bent and in very good shape! On the downside, I sheared one of the mounting bolts. I was able to find replacement bolts at my local Home Depot. Picked up a torque wrench while I was there too... LOL. This is what they did look like...

Is it possible or even viable to install a larger oil cooler for stop and go traffic?

You could DEFINITELY do this, but I see little benefit for stop and go traffic. While in the traffic, it'll offer little benefit. However, it could help to keep the oil temperature down overall. You can use any universal style cooler found at any autoparts store or junkyard. You may have to source different couplers for the lines, though.

soupskin, thank you for replying regarding the bars. I am going to buy a set of handlebars similar to yours, but putting risers on to clear the tank.
There are plenty of threads on this board how to clean and get your bike looking new again, from ten feet away it does not look bad. You did good on the purchase price though, you beat me.
Again, thank you for the pictures, much appreciated.

Front end rebuilt!
Waiting till I get her all done then I will post the "after" shots.
Both fork's oil was black and the right one has less than half of what it should. PVC pipe works very well for the oil seals! I used a 1.25" union fitting with the middle ridge shaved out and a 1.5" schedule 40 piece of pipe on top of that that I had split to fit around the upper tube. Put a piece of wood on top and smacked the seals into place! First one took me all day to get done, second one only about 2 hours.
