I have a 1983 CB650SC and the mirrors are toast.  I was wondering if anyone knew of any replacement mirrors that have longer stalks or flare out to the side more than the stock mirrors.  I have wide shoulders and I'd like to be able to see a bit of what is behind me without leaning or twisting all over the place.

Thanks

I went for a bar end mirror, I already know what my shoulders look like. Great vision to the rear and sides. Not good for lane splitting since they hang out wider than the bars but that is not legal here anyway.

I also went with bar end mirrors. I also had to twist and move around with the stock mirrors. Its a much calmer ride when you can see behind you with just a glance at the mirror.

I took my mirrors off and put them in a vise and beat on them with a hammer to bend them to the side more. It did help, but I still see my shoulders a bit more than I would like.

I found some mirror extenders that allow me to mount my existing mirrors a little up and outboard from their original location. They work great and now I can see more than my upper arms and shoulders. I'll see if I can post some pictures if you are interested.

Sparky,
Could you post pics of these extenders?  Also where you purchased them.
Thanks

Yes I'd love to have a picture/link for the extenders.  Also, for you bar enders, what product would you recomend?

I don't think I will be doing any blacksmith  gavel work on my mirrors anytime soon. But thanks for the advice.

honestly, it is not a bad idea to bend the mirrors in this way.  I've done it with great success.  I used a vice, heat, and vice grips with a towel in them.

J.C. Whitney sells a vibration damper that would also raise the mirrors a bit.
On my last bike I raised the mirrors by making an extender (epoxying a long M10 set screw halfway in a coupling nut).

Her are the pics of my mirror extenders. I got them on eBay. Visit the sellers store at   http://stores.ebay.com/LuckyBike-accessories

Mirror extenders are probably better than what I got, but for $24, including shipping, these BG Customs mirrors hang out about 2 inches farther than stock, and are black.

Thanks for all the pics.  I think I will be getting some bar end mirrors after all.  They don't look bad at all (like I thought they would).
Thanks to everyone who posted.  Great forum.  I'll post pics of my bike when I get the mirrors on.

I'm curious, did any of you with barend mirrors mount them on your stock bars? If you did, were your bars filled with metal at the ends? How did you clear that metal out?
